St. Joseph's homeless population remains mostly unchanged.
The point in time survey is a one day snapshot of the homeless population in the city. This summer's survey was done on July 29th.
Results indicate that there were 37 chronically homeless individuals living in St Joseph, consistent with previous surveys. On that day, 96 people were living in emergency shelters. The count also listed 32 people living somewhere not considered a habitable space, like a tent. These numbers are consistent with previous summer numbers as more people can live outdoors.
St. Joseph's newest permanent housing facility for the chronically homeless, the St. Joseph Haven, will open September 9th to serve as temporary housing for many homeless seeking shelter.
