Chalk it up

All youth ages 8 to 20 are encouraged to sign up to play in a pool league at Chalk & Cue Pool Room at 216 S. Eighth St. For more information or to sign up, call 364-2777.

School knights

The St. Joseph Museum will present a series of six programs for boys 5-10 years of age called Knights at the Castle. The programs will be held on the third Thursday of the month during the fall and winter from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The programs will be held at the Wyeth-Tootle Mansion on 1100 Charles St. in St. Joseph. The programs include: “Dragons & Dinosaurs” on Sept. 17; “Fur Traders & Trappers” on Oct. 15; “Ranchers & Farmers” on Nov. 19; “Billy Yank & Johnny Reb” on Jan. 21, 2010; “Builders & Movers” on Feb. 18, 2010; and “The Pony Express & Telegraph” on March 18, 2010.

Each program will cost $7 per child or free to members of the St. Joseph Museums. Parents are welcome to attend with their children. To register for these programs, please call the St. Joseph Museum at 232-8471 or e-mail Amy Grier at amy@stjosephmuseum.org.

Amish paradise

Jamesport, Mo., is home to the largest Old Order Amish settlement west of the Mississippi. On Tuesday, Oct. 6, the St. Joseph Museum will present a guided tour of the area, which will include a step-on guide (a service for group tours only) of all the points of interest that surround the town.

Scheduled events include exploring the sights and shops in downtown Jamesport, enjoying a traditional Dutch lunch at the Gingerich Dutch Pantry, a visit to an Amish farm and stops at the Amish stores.

The trip begins at the St. Joseph Museum, 3406 Frederick Ave., at 9 a.m. and the motorcoach will return to the museum by 5 p.m. The cost for the trip is $55 for museum members and $70 for non-members. Space is limited and paid reservations are required by Sept. 15. Please call the St. Joseph Museum at 232-8471 or at (800) 530-8866 to make a reservation.

Take ‘Pride’ in these auditions

Theatre Atchison will hold auditions for its production of Jane Austen’s “Pride & Prejudice” at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 1, and Wednesday, Sept. 2. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script with other actors. No experience is necessary. Rehearsals will likely be held on Sunday through Thursday evenings beginning in October. Please bring a list of potential schedule conflicts to auditions. Performances are Nov. 13-15 and Nov. 20-22.
