Up and down
I find it kind of hilarious in the paper today they're saying the school district is taking a levy decrease. They're voluntarily decreasing our taxes, but yet they're going to spend $50,000 to get 63 cents of it back. So either they need the money, or they don't, but yet they want to tax us 63 cents more. Where do these people come from?
Editor's note: The tax levy that was lowered on Monday was for the city general fund, not the school district.
*******
Buses multiply
Last year in my neighborhood or on my block there was only one school bus that picked up the kids and dropped them off. Now I see four school buses doing the job that one could be doing. Doesn't that mean more drivers, more buses, more fuel, more repairs? No wonder the people in St. Joseph don't want another tax levy. They already have enough money to pay for all of the extra costs that they're putting out. So the way I see it is somebody just wants a raise. And the people of St. Joseph are supposed to do without so the higher-ups in the school district can live high.
*******
Liberal stealing
Obama called on religious leaders last week to back him in health care reform to take care of the less fortunate because that is what God wants. There's nothing in the Bible about that care being imposed on people by secular government. There is, however, a call to individuals to voluntarily help those in need. Many are already getting free food, shelter and health care. How much more are the liberals going to steal from our pocket?
*******
For shame
In his ongoing commitment to so-called change, I see where Barack Obama has re-appointed Ben Bernanke to chairman of the Federal Reserve, who was originally appointed by George W. Bush. That's nothing, though, when you compare the Wall Street bailouts, the perpetual war policies he's continuing from George W. Bush. I am disgusted by the fact all these Main-Street Americans rise up for health care debate yet their sons and daughters die in perpetual wars. Shame on Obama and everyone fooled by his lies.

when i was in school, i lived quite away from the schools i was attending so i rode the city bus like all my other classmates who lived very far from schools, i often wonder why the school system and the city do not help each other to cut costs, there are city buses running in the same area as the school buses run in but the differance is the school buses are full of students and the city buses are empty, why doesnt the city and school district work togeather and use the city buses to bus children, this would do away with the expense of school buses and would definitely help the cities expense of running empty buses

Right on, "Liberal Stealing." How dare the libs make a plea for their government-run health plan based on moral obligations? Since when did "moral obligations" mean anything to them? They want to remove all mention of God in our culture and replace it with a "In Government We Trust" ideology. What a joke. We Christians have far more compassion for the sick and elderly. Let me tell you why. The libs measure "compassion" by how many people are on welfare. We conservatives measure compassion by how many people no longer NEED it. The distinction is critical. By redistributing wealth from one group to another, the libs violate the very intent of the Constitution that's founded upon individual freedom, personal freedom, limited government and less regulations that shackle our economy. The American people must regain the ability to distinguish between wants and needs and must shed the ridiculous notion that government exists to provide either.

Funny how Obama doesn't seem to think that we have a "moral obligation" to protect unborn children.

Joefreedom where were you hiding when our civil liberties were chipped away by Cheney? Our constitutional protection where stripped away in a phony war on terror.
You cry health care as a want not a need, so on your last days you don't want any health care?
Where are the Christian health insurers? That have compassion before profit.
Doesn't taxing the working people and taxing businesses less another way in redistributing wealth as well.
Doesn't the government socialize other important functions in society?
Such as fire protection, police, post office, water, sewer, roads, schools, busses, subways, parks, libraries, public TV and radio, and of course the military.
Are these wants or needs?

rkcubed.....I'm still trying to figure out how my "civil libeties" were effected whatsoever.
Health care is a need...just likd a cold beer...so when I need it, I buy it.
Government does indeed socialize too much of our life. It's time to cut the federal budget back to about 30% of what it is today and let the chips fall where they may.
Get the federal govt out of my face. They screw up everything they touch.
I'm fed up with Pelosi/Reid/Schumer/Barney boom boom / Christopher Dodd and all the other non-tax paying, under the table, screw the masses, long term jerk offs that have lived off the dole too long
Wants or needs.......you figure it out.

The government doesn't screw everything up...just the liberal viewed, payed off, and just don't care as long as they get votes and get to stay on the dole crowd..Republican and Democrat, that screws it up.And today, thats pretty much all of them.
Medicaid was designed to help people that needed a hand up, not as a lifestyle choice. It was not designed under any circimstances to pay for women to have illegitimate kid after kid while living in govt housing and getting foodstamps. And pay for healthcare for generation after generation. Kick all the ones that don't deserve it off, make everyone pay at least 100 a month for health coverage and you would have a surplus. Increase the rate for baby mamas when they have kids and that would put a stop to that. 45 million on medicaid would equal 450 million a month in revenue. But you can't do that..we need to just give them medicaid and not question if they should recieve it or not.Nice liberal point of view.
Medicare is something we all pay for. Eliminate all the fraud, overpriced drugs that doctors hand out like candy and could be purchased for a fraction of the price in Canada, procedures that aren't even needed. And quit screwing our elderly and you would also have a surplus. It isn't the govt screwing it up..its the money grab by providers and drug companies. All slipping money into our leaders pockets because they have so much it is overflowing out of theirs.
My grandad drew welfare during the depression...thats right. They worked for it, built roadside parks that are still standing, dug ditches etc...It is a needed program for people that need a hand up...not a lifestyle income choice. Once again. not the govt screwing it up...it is the leeches. and the liberals that feel they need to just "give" people money.
Government programs could run just fine and we could see benefit from our tax dollars. If you could find any common sense in Washington...but apparently there is none.

IBC maybe you have been asleep since 9/11, Americans have lost vital Constitutional rights and liberties at a rapid rate. We now live in an America in which the government can break into your home or business without a warrant, seize your property, secretly activate your cell phone to listen to your private conversations in the room even when you think the phone is off, investigate you without legal representation, listen to your phone calls without warrant, intercept your emails without warrant, and ultimately police you with American and Foreign military if they so choose. In addition to this, soon they may be able to simply imprison you indefinitely, without due process--without a charge or a conviction--for as long as they please.

rkcubed.........yep, I've been napping and during my nap, not a single thing you mintion has impacted me whatsoever....other than the FACT that I've been safer. I've not been attacked by Muslims who are hell bent to expand their influence in the world.
More recently my great grandchildren(not born) have been effected....they are now in debt, substantially and will soon be more so.
In addition the self-proclaimed emperor (sometimes called President) has amassed an army (called "organizers") and has funded them to the tune of over TEN BILLION DOLLARS, and they are quietly getting ready to expand his power and influence by manipulating the 2010 census....and control events such as "town meetings".
All those "bad things" you list may have happened...without impact on me, since I'm a law abiding citizen. But, I hope I'm waking up (and people like me) because what is on the horizon is truly frightening. I'm one of the minority in this country that pay taxes so I'm fair game.
Yes, we are going to have to wake up...and going to work, or little league baseball, or enjoying a weekend at Lake Contrary will no longer be an option. Those of us who abide by the law and the constitution are going to have to take to the streets and protect ourselves against the "Brown Shirts" (AKA ACORN...ISEU....Ameriaprise) because they are in the wings getting ready to do the bidding of the fellow who ignored the law to take over the auto industry, and the insuance companes and soon our health care
Maybe it's someone else whose napping

You can give up everything and you will be vulnerable.
Remember this:
"They first came for the Communists and I didn't speak up- because I wasn't a Communists. Then they came for the Jews and I didn't speak up- because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists and I didn't speak up- because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics and I didn't speak up- because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me- and by that time no one was left to speak up."

All of the people and employers with employer paid health insurance are in a socialized health care system subsidized by the state & federal government tax subsidies of $300 billion plus per year. That is in addition to all the other tax subsidies for all the other plans for various purposes. This largely came about starting in the sixties as employers and unions realized that that enormous savings in income and employer taxes (including social security) were possible if part of employee pay was paid in the form of tax free benefits instead of taxable wages. The biggest moves in this movement were the Big Three Car Companies and the UAW and govermental bodies and their employees. These savings came about at the expense of the self employed and smaller employers and their employees who could not afford these expensive shifts in the way that compensation is treated. Some of the primary objections to a national health care system come from those involved in the employer employer paid socialized medicine health care system for the majority who are reluctant to give up their perks under the current system. As it is, they are subsidized by those of us who pay for our own medical expenses with after tax dollars. I am thankful that I have finally reached the age for Medicare and don't have to pay ten thousand plus a year for medical insurance although like most people, we pay 100% of our dental expenses (only the mostly heavily subsidized plans have dental coverage).

rkcubed..........I totally agree, but of course that was not my point.
The "rights" citizens hae lost in the past 200 days far exceed and are significantly more invasive than anything Georgie Bush could think of.
We have a dictator who without the inconvenience of legislation took over two major industries....has created a whole new inner circle of power (CZARs) ignoring the Constitution that provides the governmental structure, and has initiated attacks on free speech / guns / to create open borders / and is dismanteling our military and destroying our intellilgence community
In a spare moment he is destroying our economy and creating a healthcare system to moniter and control the makeup of our population.
In his spare moments he spends millions of dollars for a night on the town or a trip to London for his wife to have fish and chips.
Is this great stuff or what
