Upkeep needed

I'm just calling about the Downtown area, as they're trying to revive it. I was just down that way and saw all those beautiful flower pod sections they put on every corner. They got rid of a lot of parking sections just to put in all these flower sections. The flowers are beautiful, but it's too bad nobody's maintaining them, because the grass and the weeds are growing so thick through them that it's getting taller than the flowers. So, why sink all this money into Downtown when nobody takes care of it? You might want to ride by, just to see what your tax dollars are doing.

Delighted

for discounts

First we have Cash for Clunkers. Now we're going to have dollars for dishwashers and other appliances. I've got an old pair of ratty tennis shoes. I think that I should get $50 or $100 and trade them in on a new pair of Nikes. Sounds fair to me. How about you?

A cruel fate

I am calling about Michael Vick, now that he's open and free and he got to be able to play football. The person who called in said that he should have not gotten any jail time and what he did to those dogs was just fine. Well, how would you like to have to fight to the death? And if you get injured, they just shoot and kill you without nobody there to help. Try to imagine what it must have been like for those dogs.

Proud parent

"For shame" is disgusted by the fact that all of us Main Street Americans are rising up for the health care debate, yet their sons and daughters die in perpetual wars. Well, there's nothing perpetual about the war. But I want to tell you that I am very proud of my son for serving in the Army. I'm very proud of my son fighting for freedom for the Iraqi people. I am very proud of him, but yet I will rise up against the health care debate. Because I believe it's the responsibility of every American to work and to get their own health care, just like I did and all my family has. I should not have to pay for someone else's health care.

Parkway politics

I'm calling in regard to the arguments on alcohol regulation rules. And I just don't understand. It sounds like the city is contradicting themselves. How we can have Parties on the Parkway, open containers out in the public, but then again we want to put more regulations on bar owners? Many years ago, you used to be able to drink at the ball fields, and they took that out. If we can't drink at the ball fields, then how can we drink on the Parkway?

To Proud Parent:

Not sure I understand your logic. You pay for your son's health care right now, since he's in the Army. Your going to continue to pay for his health care, since he will be a veteran. And what about people who get old and can't work anymore? You pay for Medicare, don't you?

Semo, ProudParent was talking about people who don't work, either by choice or because they've neglected to educate themselves to be a marketable employee. There's a lot of people who COULD work, who do NOT work, and still want their health care issues taken care of. Medicare is not a problem, and neither is the VA. The problem, in my opinion, are those folks who are either here illegally, sucking up the benefits, or too lazy to hold a job.

This post was in NO way meant to disparage those folks who work at jobs that just flat don't offer health care insurance. I'm being much more pointed toward those who are unemployed by choice.

As for the military members and THEIR health care....I'd say they've pretty much earned their benefit, wouldn't you???

Salute!!!, No one in this country should receive better health care than those who fight to protect us. All military personell go to the head of the line. And no, I've never been in the armed forces, but I do appreciate those braver, and more sacrificial.

We pay for those unemployed by choice anyway. So what are you saying to people that work, and aren't "educated" because they failed to come up with money for college because aparently their family didn't water some money tree enough to produce the funds? It is just ok for them to work, or try to, and pay for others to be insured why they are denied even a simple option? I just wish all these nutballs ranting and raving at these townhall meetings were as passionate about removing all the deadbeats from medicaid as they were in making sure those working people in a bind won't get one single thing. But they won't , they are stuck on stupid.

Nope...I agree, rk....it's the deadbeats on Medicaid that I'm worried about...not the people who are working, sometimes two or three jobs, and still don't have insurance. I worry about the ones who don't work, or only work once in awhile, and waste the Medicaid resources.

The statement about someone should not have to pay for someone elses healthcare is a joke. Working people are not even asking for that...thats just propaganda crap you believe. They want an option "THEY" can pay for.

And the cash for clunkers is the biggest farce I have ever seen. The final top ten list I saw contained 2 american cars that were bought,,the rest was Toyota, Honda, Nissan and Hyundai. But they somehow got rid of that list..and now added a Chevy to the bottom so it wouldn't look so ridiculous. We give billions to GM and Chrysler so we can give 3 billion to people to buy Jap cars. Nice.

My biggest concern with the healthcare is the gov runs the VA! I know how our vets are treated and it is NOT GOOD. They could care less about the people they are treating; They get their money anyway. Check it out and keep the gov out of your healthcare.

I've been usin the VA system for over 10 years now, and have found them to be more responsive than any privite service I had in the past. There are somtimes hoops you have to go thru, but what system doesn't?? The VA does really good work in taking care of the people that have earned the right for their care!

Why weren't you complaining about GB's Rx plan, that cuts out when you need it most. It's just forced insurance. A subsidy to the insurance companies.

I, too, have heard horror stories about the VA health care, but knowing several people who use it, and how they've been treated at the VA center in Leavenworth, I'd say the care they receive has been equal or better than what I get at Heartland....

Vets have to drive all the way to Leavenworth? What about an overhauled plan that would allow them to go to heartland or any where they choose? The Government can provide and oversee entire hospitals, thousands of doctors and nurses, plans like medicaid, medicare and the Vets. And they can't run a simple optional group plan for those uninsured?? That is how stupid these arguments have gotten. I would gladly pay for an afordable plan and ride down there with them, instead of flat getting ripped off at Pharmacys and Heartland here.

See my post on the 8/27/09 "It"s Your Call" re the socialized medicine in this country called employer paid health insurance (for the benefit of a decreasing percentage of the population thanks to the decline in our economy).

The VA has clinic in St Joe...they will draw blood one day, and the next day the results are with your local doctor. plus, if you need emergency help, all you have to do is call the VA, and they'll tell you to go to the local hospital, and take care of all the charges. the VA does a really goo job of taking care of their own....

And it is the decreasing number that have their arms folded and say they want nobody else to have insurance. How hypocritical is it for some fat cat politician to rant against giving average working people a shot at affordable healthcare (and 5,000.00 a year is not affodable) because it will add to the deficit. When they are grossly overpayed and we also pay for their family to have insurance......that adds to the deficit.

RK.......you got it wrong. I don't drive to Leavenworth...I drive over on 36th stret. Read the sign...it says "VA" Amazing how you make your point with flawed facts.

By the way, I like Heartland

My bad...you can have surgery at your clinic here? I have a friend that just had to go out of town to a VA for bypass surgery. Guess he didn't know about the local clinic.

And you get healthcare through the VA?? The why did you say "healthcare is like cold beer...I buy it when I need it?' You don't buy anything ..so shut your yap.
