MARYVILLE, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State University's governing board on Friday approved a lease agreement with Hero Teams LLC, an information technology company based in Kansas City.
The company will be the fifth tenant in the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE), a 46,000-square-foot, $24 million science building on the Northwest campus that officially opened this fall.
Hero Teams will bring 10 employees to campus in January and swell to approximately 15 employees within a few months. Salaries for the employees are projected to be more than that of the average Nodaway County salary.
Dr. Charles McAdams, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, said Hero Teams found Northwest, and that the company met Northwest's three criteria to take up space in the CIE. The company has what is considered a business plan that will be successful; they will work with students and faculty in research and offer internships; and they will contribute to the local economy.
Hero Teams will run 24 hours a day for seven days a week, mostly providing phone support to clients and possibly some on-site support.
Robin Greenhagen, the CEO and founder of Hero Teams, wasn't at the Board of Regents meeting Friday. He said in a news release that the company will benefit from a "ready-to-run facility" that Northwest offers.
"We can immediately realize a return on investment in our relationship with the CIE and with the Maryville community," he said.
Current tenants include Carbolytic Materials Company, which plans to employ 20 to 30 people in its operation, which produces "carbon black" by shredding automobile tires. The material is used in the rubber and plastics industry; Practical Sustainability LLC of Chesterfield, which provides analytical support to health care facilities; Riley and Tabel Consulting LLC works in the pharmaceutical, biomedical and biotechnology fields; Alyoop Inc., is a virtual tenant based out of St. Louis. The company is working with Northwest students to develop software focused on delivering coupons to shoppers electronically.
