Roy Blunt has announced his plans to seek a U.S. Senate seat.

Roy Blunt makes it official. He will for a united states senate seat from Missouri.

Blunt is announcing his "campaign for the people" on a three-day statewide tour that began Thursday in St. Louis, Jefferson City, Cape Girardeau and Carthage. Additional stops were planned for Friday and Saturday.

Currently, Blunt is convisered by many as the republican front funner for the nomination, but will face a primary challenge from former state treasurer, Sarah Steelman.

Blunt was the first republican elected secretary of state in Missouri in more than 50 years and was re-elected for a second term.

Democratic secretary of state, Robin Carnahan, has already announced her candidacy, and is expected to easily win the democratic nomination.
