Shatto Milk appears on Law & Order
by Susan Mires
Thursday, January 22, 2009

How did a local business wind up on Law & Order?

No one is quite sure, but the business is happy about it.

Leroy Shatto, owner of Shatto Milk Co., wrote about the event in his monthly “Moosletter.” The dairy near Osborn, Mo., has received quite a bit of attention for its farm-fresh milk packaged in glass bottles.

Mr. Shatto wrote that he received a call from a friend one evening asking if he’d seen the Shatto Milk bottles on the television show. They had no idea what he was talking about.

He describes how they figured out what had happened:

“After receiving a couple dozen e-mails and phone calls, we were able to finally obtain some photos that allowed us to confirm that Shatto Milk bottles in a wire milk carrier were shown during the opening scene of a Law & Order episode.

This is not something that we knew was going to happen, but needless to say it was pretty neat to see our bottles on a nationally televised show! The only thing we can think of is that someone who ordered bottles and a wire carrier must have been with the show or television station and decided to use those products as a prop.

No matter how it came to be, we were pretty excited to hear that our bottles were on national television. With that said, I am pretty sure that will not be a common occurrence as we hear that doing proactive product placement in shows like that is very expensive.”

A photo of the scene is posted with the newsletter here.
