Heartland Health System announced Wednesday that Dr. Mark Laney, a physician from Texas, will step up as the new CEO, President and Chief Administrative Officer of Heartland Health.

Dr. Laney is taking the place of former CEO, Lowell Kruse, who left last month after 25 years on the job.

Laney received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, and completed his pediatric neurology fellowship at the Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education in Rochester, Minnesota.

Laney was introduced to staff and press Wednesday morning by Heartland officials. He said he is excited to take the helm of a quality organization like Heartland. "I see a real opportunity to be the head of a great regional medical system... it's a really wonderful opportunity."

Laney is slated to take the Heartland helm, August 1st.
