My first set of wheels was not a motorcycle; it was a Cushman Scooter. I was excited and elated when I got it. Even though it was old and used it was mine. My scooter did have one problem, you had to get off and push it up hills. On a flat surface it would zoom along. I asked my Dad several times to fix it but he never did. I found out later that my mother had a lot to do with it because she did not want me to have the scooter. Since dad was okay with it I guess he felt he shouldn’t fix it to stay on mom’s good side.
I got my first motorcycle in 1971. It was a Honda and I have been riding ever since. I even had a Honda Gold Wing (those were the days). After all these years of riding I am now riding a Honda scooter. A Silver Wing with 600 cc’s of power to go with it. Since I don’t have the money to get a touring bike, the scooter will do. In the mean time, Mike, a friend of mine says that he will give me a big Harley when he wins the lottery. It’s been eighteen years but we like to think about what fun it would be if Mike did win and take me shopping at Harley Davidson. Oh well......
I find it ironic that my first set of wheels was a scooter and now at 67 years old, I am zipping along on a scooter again. The good thing about it is that I don’t have to push it up hills.
