3 hurt in Clinton County accident
by St. Joseph News-Press
Tuesday, June 9, 2009

A man and two children from Lathrop, Mo., were injured Sunday evening in a single-vehicle accident in rural Clinton County.

Joseph T. McDowell, 31, was driving west at 5:10 p.m. on State Route V when he failed to negotiate a curve and traveled off the south side of the roadway three miles north of Holt, Mo., according to area law enforcement officials.

Mr. McDowell’s 1988 Toyota skidded and struck a fence before it came to rest facing southeast at the bottom of a concrete culvert.

The driver’s son, Aiden J. McDowell, 5, suffered serious injuries and a niece, Kailey A. Johnson, 1, sustained moderate injuries. Both children were transported by ambulance to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. Hospital officials said Aiden was in fair condition Monday morning. Kailey was treated in the ambulance and was not admitted to the hospital.

Mr. McDowell had minor injuries and was transported via ambulance to Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Mo., where he was treated and released.

All three people wore their seat belts and no summons were issued.
