Area rivers swelled after recent rains, but hints of flooding have subsided.

Despite nearly a half inch of rain Tuesday, the area is still nearly an inch below normal, said Justin Gesling, meteorologist at St. Joe Now weather.

Weekend rains followed by precipitation on Monday and Tuesday brought the Platte River in Agency near flood level. Rosendale, Mo., a problem spot when the 102 River escapes its bank, experienced some flooding.

“It’s not what’s happening around you, but above you,” Mr. Gesling said of rain in counties north of St. Joseph, which fills creeks and rivers running south through Buchanan County.

Andrew County officials closed Missouri Highway 48 near Rosendale Monday, said Roger Latham, the county’s emergency management director. Water had subsided and the road was open Wednesday morning.

“Barring any great rain,” Mr. Latham said, “we’ll be all right.”

Early forecasts called for heavy rain this week in northern Missouri counties, but Mr. Gesling said Wednesday that has changed and they would likely see light rain.

Temperatures are expected to reach the mid-80s by Friday or Saturday and stay in the mid-80s through next week. And though it’s technically still spring, Mr. Gesling said temperatures for this time of year average 80 to 84 degrees.

According to the Missouri Historical Agricultural Weather database, Buchanan County had 39.95 inches of precipitation in 2008, with the most coming on June 12, with 2.92 inches. The county, according to the database, experienced its largest rainfall this year on May 15, when 2.10 inches fell.
