Regional projects benefit from funding

JEFFERSON CITY – The Missouri Department of Economic Development announced Tuesday that 15 projects in areas of the state affected by weather-related disasters during 2008 have been approved for Community Development Block Grant funding totaling $9,564,021. A total of 36 applications requesting more than $19 million were received.

In Northwest Missouri, Savannah and Worth County will benefit. Savannah has been awarded a total of $590,770, which will be utilized for street and drainage repairs to Price Street ($392,200) and for street and drainage repairs to Cedar Street ($198,570).

Worth County was awarded a total of $139,338, which will be used for the replacement of County Bridge 185 ($50,317); for the replacement of County Bridge 172 ($53,640); and for the replacement of County Bridge 195 ($35,381).

In addition, Marceline has been approved for $423,418 for repairs to its water system and the replacement of a flood-damaged pump house; Milan was approved for $34,070 to repair flood-damaged infrastructure, and Chariton County was approved for $90,320 for levee repairs to the Garden of Eden Levee District.

The funding was approved by Congress with the passage of the Consolidated Security, Disaster Assistance and Continuing Appropriations Act of 2009.
