Texas singer/songwriter Randy Weeks has penned plenty of tunes with both the SoCal country rock group The Lonesome Strangers in the ‘80s and ‘90s and for his four solo releases. But he’s gotten a lot more awareness thanks acclaimed singer/songwriter Lucinda Williams covering his song “Can’t Let Go.” “It’s kind of a good calling card to have a song like that covered by an artist like that,” Weeks says. He was named a “2009 Artist to Watch” by the Los Angeles Times before he released his latest, “Going My Way.” The album was inspired by his move to Austin, Texas, in 2007 and combines R&B, blues, country and Beatles-inspired pop with Week’s clever lyrics and welcoming tenor reminiscent of a young Willie Nelson. He’s on tour and plans to stop in St. Joe to jam with local musician Tracy Huffman, who used to perform with Weeks in California and Texas. “He knows some of my tunes, and if he wants me to plink along to a few of his, I’ll do that, too,” he says. Randy Weeks and Tracy Huffman perform at 9 p.m. tonight at Cafe Acoustic.
