SAVANNAH, Mo. — The city of Savannah will be able to repair two streets, thanks to the release of state Community Development Block Grant funds.
Savannah has been awarded a total of $590,770 in disaster funding from a pool of $13 million approved for 2008 flooding in Northwest Missouri. Andrew County was designated as one of the disaster counties from last year’s flooding, said Mike Fisher, Savannah city administrator.
The money will be used for street and drainage repairs to Price Street and for street and drainage repairs to Cedar Street.
The city still has to handle some details before putting the projects out for bid, Mr. Fisher said. Price Street would be improved traveling east from U.S. Business Highway 71 to the first hill with uniform width, curbs, storm gutters and a sidewalk on at least one side, Mr. Fisher said. Cedar Street’s drainage area is 75 percent below capacity, so the thought is to build two large box culverts to replace the current 66-inch culvert, he said. If there are no roadblocks, construction could begin next spring, Mr. Fisher said.
