July offers doll opportunities at the St. Joseph Museums.
Anyone who enjoys dolls and history can get involved with the museum’s American Girl Doll Club. The fun begins at 6 p.m. Wednesday with a party for Rebecca, the newest addition to the Museums’ American Girl Doll collection.
Introduced in 1986, the American Girl series offers dolls and their historically accurate clothing and accessories. Each character’s story is told in a series of books that concludes with a nonfiction picture essay exploring the character’s historical period.
St. Joseph resident Dorathea Polsky will share her family history and the similarities to Rebecca’s story about moving from Russia. This is a free event, open to the public. Owning an American Girl doll is not required.
At 10 a.m. Thursday, the museum hosts a two-hour play day. Children can play with the American Girl dolls and do a “make and take” craft. The play day cost is $3, or $1.50 for members.
The museum is located at 3406 Frederick Ave.
The Museums’ American Girl Doll Club also presents a three-day workshop at the Wyeth-Tootle Mansion, 11th and Charles streets. The focus for the sessions will be the story of American life in the 1930s. Sessions begin at 1 p.m. July 15, 9 a.m. July 16 and 1 p.m. July 17.
The workshop includes a July 17 field trip to the Amelia Earhart Festival in Atchison, Kan. There is a $25 ($15 for members) fee for this workshop, which includes all craft materials and food each day.
