Dirt flys as Kansas city Chiefs and Missouri Western officials and dignitaries break ground for the multi-million dollar football training facility, Monday.

The Kansas City Chiefs/Missouri WEstern practice facility is under construction.

Officials from Missouri Western, the city of St. Joseph and Buchanan County along with Kansas City Chiefs officials, broke ground Monday morning for the Kansas City Chiefs summer traning camp facility. The indoor practice facility will also be available for Western as well as community use when the Chiefs are not in summer camp.

About 250 people were in attendance at the morning ceremony with several wearuing their Chief's gear.

Western's Athletic Director, Dave Williams, says this will benefit almost every department of griffon athletics.

The contractor, Crossland Construction, intends to work with 11 local subcontractors on the project. All together, the local subs will account for nearly half on the $10 million it will take to build the facility.

The project is expected to be completed and ready to open in time for the Chiefs to train there in the summer of 2010..
