State seeking Input On Kid's Nutrition
by Rachel Hoffman
Wednesday, March 4, 2009

The Missouri Department Of Health And Senior Services is seeking out public input on some proposed guidelines to assist child-care facilities in providing more nutritional meals to their children.

The Missouri Eat Smart guidelines, a wellness policy that currently defines levels of nutrition standards for schools and child-care facilities, has proposed a new level of nutrition regulations.

Currently the Missouri Eat Smart guidelines for child care consists of three levels of suggested nutrition: Minimum, Intermediate, and Advanced, starting with the minimum requirements for federal child nutrition programs and moving up.

The proposed level, called Exemplary, takes the policy a step further requiring higher standards of nutritional value within child care meals.

Marilyn Nigh, Director Of Child Care at the St Joseph Barlett Center, says she thinks what's best for the kids is what's important.
