Johnson to cut jobs, close 10 plants

MILWAUKEE - Johnson Controls Inc. said Friday it will cut jobs and close 10 manufacturing plants as part of a restructuring effort that it said will cost between $200 million and $215 million.

The company, whose products include automotive parts, batteries and building systems, did not say how many employees will be affected or which plants it will close.

Johnson Controls operates a battery manufacturing center on Lower Lake Road that employs more than 300 people in St. Joseph. In addition, it owns the York Engineered Systems in Albany, Mo., that manufacturers air handling systems for buildings.

The company said 80 percent of the restructuring charges announced Friday will affect the company's automotive segment. It will report earnings on April 21.

In September, the company announced a $495 million program of plant closures and job cuts, which is two-thirds complete.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

I feel bad for those dealing with their unknown future.

Sounds like what Heartland has been doing with some of their employees. I heard they are going to outsource the majority of the information technology department. What's up with that? Especially after they spent millions of dollars to put those systems in place.

It wasn't long ago that the news press or KQ interviewed a Heartland manager (not sure the person's name) and they were bragging on what a wonderful system they had and what talented staff supported the systems. That was short lived!

Now they want to kick the employees to the curb and send the money elsewhere. Way to go Heartland...you're the employer of choice!

I guess Abdul (aka Bob) and Aatmaja (aka Deb) in India better brush up on English. What's the benefit to outsourcing 100 jobs (other than a bonus?) I don't get it...

WHAT???? Oh that's great. I know alot of people that work there. This town is going to pot. Thats what I want, access and care of my medical records going over seas! I can't believe it. I have heard about this great system that isn't so great. So what is this a cover up? How can this be quality service. If this hospital is concerned about its image, this is the wrong way to go about it, in my opinion.

I sure hope the Johnson Controls here isn't affected. What is it going to take to wake this town up?? We need jobs to come here, not leave here....
