Treasurer sets up site for un-claimed property
by Gretchen Mollenhour
Friday, May 1, 2009

You might have some money coming to you, and the Missouri State Treasurer's website has made it easier for you to find out. The site lists more than $550 million in unclaimed assets. About one in ten Missourians have money being held for them from unclaimed or abandoned safe deposit boxes that are turned over to the state.

Missouri holds the property for a year, then auctions it off and holds the money for a relative.

Finding out if you are owed money is as easy as typing in your name. Last year the treasurer's department returned 34 million dollars to Missourians. And be sure to keep checking the site, there is a bill in congress that, if passed, will allow users to search matured u-s savings bonds through their state websites. You can get to that site going to http://www.treasurer.mo.gov/mainucp.asp .
