Dead body found in Andrew County
Police searching for SUV, 2 males in shooting death
by Marshall White
Sunday, May 3, 2009

AMAZONIA, Mo. — A gunshot to the head ended the life of a young man found Saturday on a gravel road between Interstate 29 and Savannah’s new water works.

The department received a 911 call at 6 p.m. that two white men were dumping a body on County Road 417, north of Amazonia, said Andrew County Sheriff Bryan Atkins.

The Andrew County Sheriff’s Department, along with crime scene investigators from the Missouri State Highway Patrol and officers from the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Department and the Savannah Police Department, sealed off the scene.

The department believes the site where the body was found is likely where the death occurred, Mr. Atkins said.

After the shooting, the body was dumped on the north side of County Rode 417 about a quarter-mile from Missouri Route T. The coroner pronounced the victim dead at the scene, and the body will be taken to the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s office in Kansas City.

Investigators remained on the scene at 10 p.m. Saturday and still hadn’t determined if the victim sustained any additional gunshot wounds. No identification had been made.

The victim appears to be in his late teens or early 20s, Mr. Atkins said.

A Savannah Rural Fire Protection District truck was called to the scene to provide flood lights for investigators. Additional officers were patrolling Andrew County roads looking for a burgundy or purplish sport utility vehicle with two males.

No name will be released until any next of kin is notified.

The last murder in Andrew County happened in 2007, Mr. Atkins said.

A murder in Mayberry! Andy and Barney will be on the lookout now. Maybe with the help of Opie and Aunt Bea they'll be able to solve the case.

I feel sorry for the young man who lost his life and more sorry for the victim's family. Will the murderers be brought to justice? I guess that will all depend on how fast Barney can get the one bullet out of his pocket and when Aunt Bea calls to say the apple pie is done!

My guess is that the murder was drug or gang related and that the white trash Eminem wannabes involved -- including the victim -- were from St. Joseph. I also expect the case will be solved when someone brags or otherwise flaps their mouth. There ought to be an arrest within a week. It is inevitable.

Plus, the perpetrators will be tried in Andrew County, where they will be mercilessly slam-dunked by a jury.

Its thugs from elsewhere who bring their trouble into "Mayberry" ...and they should keep in mind that Mayberrians, who refuse to live in Demokrat-run urban hellholes, will toast them like Wonder Bread if they look for trouble in the wrong place.

Or, as Red Skelton used to say, "anybody found around here at night will be found around here in the morning".

Oh please, tallest. Give me a break! The only way the case will be solved is because the Highway Patrol is involved. You make so many speculations and have no clue what was involved. The bumbling idiots of law enforcement in Andrew County couldn't solve the crime if the Highway Patrol wasn't involved.

They would receive much worse punishment in a larger city. The judges and prosecutor are so corrupt they have no backbone. They need a real man to run against them so they will finally stand up and do what is right for the county.

If I were an attorney it would be! I'm tired of all the chicken poo prostitutors (or I mean prosecutors!) out there. If it truly were as conservative as tallest makes it sound, Stevenson wouldn't balk on prosecuting the cases he passes on because he doesn't want to ruffle feathers.

Wow, sounds like someone is bitter against the Andrew County law enforcement, and the area as a whole. Personally I am glad there are still towns and communities such as Savannah and the surrounding communities. The world needs more places that are "Mayberryish." Good thing you put "fool" in your name we would have never have guessed. *rolls eyes*
I am guessing that this is an out of area murder. The victim is a young Asian man, that would limit the search for his identity in Andrew county. Tallest is right, these were most likely young, uneducated men that will talk.

ACbound- keep "you" rif-raff in your own town we wouldn't have this issue.

What kind of idiotic statement is that? That would be like me holding Andrew county responsible for "you" comment.

Since you are so smart, how do you suppose we keep our own supposed rif raff? Unless you know more to the story of what happened and who the murderers are, how do you know WHERE they are from? Umm excuse me sir, but if you are entering Andrew county to commit a crime, please don't. Go back to "you" own neighborhood and proceed with it there.

Geesh. You all are losing site that a young man has lost his life for whatever the reason doesnt matter. Someone's son, brother, friend is lost...and for what?

Whoever you are, rest in peace. My sympathies to his loved ones.

Yes,I agree it was a bad deal that the young man lost his life.Hope that the men are caught and charged to the max amount. As most of you can see or tell that "trappinfool" likes to stir the pot.O by the way, I dont know anymore than anyone else does about the case. Also for the record I dont know where they are from or who is involved. But I do know that things like this dont happen VERY often in Andrew County.
I do believe the Andrew County police will find out who did this...

ACbound, you are right in that trappin stirred the pot, what they said wasnt right either. Not sure why the comparison to Mayberry? I always liked that show. I would also like to point out that things dont happen like that in Buchanan County very often either.

I hope they do find out who did this.

I haven't been able to catch the news, but does anyone know about them thinking it happened at that site, and that they were seen dumping the body there? That confuses me a bit.

I'm sure TrappinFool had his reasons for what he said.. But given the circumstances of the story- It came off a little dis-respectful to the young man who lost his life (and his family too if they read it)
