Brookdale Preschool enrolling for fall

Brookdale Preschool (Montessori Method), located inside Brookdale Presbyterian Church at 203 S. 31st St., is taking registrations for fall 2009 classes.

The school year begins with open house days right after Labor Day in September and ends before Memorial Day weekend in May. School days are from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., Monday through Friday; however, after-school care is not provided. The St. Joseph School District calendar is followed regarding holiday breaks and also for school cancellations due to bad weather.

Monthly tuition is determined by the number of days per week your child attends. Younger students typically attend Tuesdays and Thursdays and older students on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, but some students attend four or even five days per week.

Receipt of your registration form and a non-refundable $25 registration fee will hold a place for your child for next fall (The registration fee increases to $35 June 1). Call Susie Thornton, director/lead teacher, at the preschool number, 233-2477, any day after 11:45 a.m. for more information or to arrange a tour of the facility.

Baha’is elect Local Spiritual Assembly

The election of the Baha’is of St. Joseph’s nine-member Local Spiritual Assembly was held on April 20 during an annual meeting at a local residence. As they have done in St. Joseph for more than 30 years now, the 15 adult members cast ballots and elected Gerald Barnes, Charity Griffin, Lora Mason, Mary Lou Proctor, T.J. Stohr, Gabrial Stohr, Hoda Varqa, Nader Varqa and Jalal Varqa to their Local Spiritual Assembly.

In Baha’i communities around the world, local and national Spiritual Assemblies were elected during the most holy period for members of the Baha’i Faith: the Festival of Ridvan, celebrated from April 20 to May 2.
