My husband is always looking for the perfect plant marker for his numerous varieties of daylilies. That’s because the ones he has found so far are pretty flimsy and need to be replaced after a few seasons. But his search may be over. While visiting the amazing garden of Shirley Matthews (read about her garden in Diem on Monday), I noticed how sturdy and shiny some of her plant markers are. She told me they are made by Gary Kincaid, a Savannah, Mo., man and former engineer. They are made of 100-percent stainless steel, not galvanized steel as you usually find, so they are more resistant to rust, oxidation and corrosion. The 10-gauge posts won’t bend or twist when you insert them in the ground or while hoeing and weeding. And what she likes most is the removable name plate. It’s designed so it won’t fall off or get accidentally knocked off the post. What I liked about them is the plate is angled so you can see the name from a standing position. They come in 10-, 15- and 20-inch lengths.
The bottom line: These plant markers are a little more expensive than some, a bundle of 25 10-inch markers sell for $25.20., but you’ll probably never need to replace them. For more information or to order, visit www.KincaidGardens.com or call (816) 324-4931.
