The Community Center for the Arts hosts ‘Off the Wall’ fundraiser
The Missouri Western Center for Community Arts has hosted fundraisers in the past, but this year it’s doing something different.
The Center for Community Arts will be having an “Off the Wall” silent auction and trivia tournament starting at 6:30 p.m. May 28 at the Missouri Western Downtown University Center. The emcee for the evening will be KQ2 anchor Bridget Blevins.
Martha Greer, director of the Center for Community Arts, says past fundraisers have featured performing arts. This year, organizers wanted to try something new.
“We wanted to do something that was very inclusive to all of the community,” she says, “that had a broad appeal, that people would want to do for fun.”
The event begins with a silent auction. Guests will be able to bid on a variety of art, donated from community members, throughout the night.
“It’s stuff that they may have in their closet, hence the “Off the Wall,” Ms. Greer says, “or if they’re ready to get something new or if it doesn’t fit with them anymore.”
The Center for Community Arts also will accept new donations of art from local artists.
The trivia tournament starts at 7 p.m. and features arts and entertainment questions. The cost to play trivia is $10 per person; teams can have up to 10 people. Individuals who want to play but don’t have a team can still attend, Ms. Greer says, and will be placed with a team.
There will be six rounds of trivia in the tournament, with the winning team of each round winning a prize. The overall winning team will receive $100.
Ms. Greer says the fundraiser is focusing more on letting people have fun, not just collecting their money.
“It’s a fundraiser, but that’s kind of a beside the point,” she says. “You’re coming and you’re having a good time, but at the same time you’re helping a good cause.”
