The Clinton County Library Friends will host a barbecue tonight at the Youth Building, located one mile east of Plattsburg on Missouri Highway 116.
The event will help kick off the summer reading program and will raise funds for the library’s attempt to place a proposal on a 2010 election ballot, said officials with the Clinton County Library Board. This year’s theme is “Be Creative — Read!” Story time and crafts will be included.
The meal, catered by Miguel and Lefty’s of Plattsburg, will be served from 6 to 8 p.m. A silent auction, children’s activities and a Scholastic Book fair will be featured in a “Summer Fun” event. Numerous local businesses have donated items for the auction, including a gift certificate and concert tickets.
The fair will continue all next week from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Youth Building. A special Thursday night opening for Family Night will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. The last day of the book fair will be June 6, when hours will be 10 a.m. to noon.
Similar programs will be held June 13 in Gower at the Christian Church and June 21 at the former Van Buren-Spaeth Library in Lathrop.

Carnahan named
to board
Tom Carnahan, president and chief executive officer of Wind Capital Group, was recently named to the board of American Wind Energy Association, the national trade association of the nation’s wind industry.
Wind Capital’s first project, the Blue Grass Ridge Wind Farm in King City, was developed in 2006. Wind Capital now has offices in Missouri, Illinois, and Wisconsin and has wind energy projects under development in 16 states — including several others throughout Northwest Missouri.
