Mabel Edson
November 15, 1924

Sunday, November 1, 2009

The family of Mabel Edson requests the honor of your presence at an open house to celebrate her being 85 years young!

The event will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, November 15, at Mabel’s farm. Hors d’oeuvres and drinks will be served.

Mabel and Vernon Edson were married on Mabel’s 18th birthday. Shortly afterwards, she began teaching in a country schoolhouse while Vernon served four years in the Army. When he returned home, they developed a successful farming operation together and raised three children.

Over the years, Mabel has been dedicated to her work at Bethany Christian Church, where she has been a lifelong member. Mabel’s most recent passion over the past five years has been as a volunteer literacy tutor through Missouri Western State University’s Adult Literacy Program. Because of her success with helping adults learn to read and write, Mabel was awarded the 2009 Roy Blunt Literacy Award. As you can see, she is not done yet!
