Monday was the first day the general public could apply for the community action partnership's energy assistance program. The program helps lower the cost of heating throughout the winter.
Before Monday, only those over 60 or with disabilities could apply for assistance. Delphia Shanks of CAP said that 900 people applied last month.
300 applied today and shanks expects the high numbers to continue.
