Nice place

A big thank-you to the FedEx guy in St. Joseph. I was in a tight spot and in a panic, and he went above and beyond and helped me out. My husband and I moved here two years ago, and we love St. Joseph and all the people here.

Obama’s men

You know, I wasn’t surprised to see that Obama made sure that the Gitmo detainees get their swine flu injections before the women and children of this country. We’ve got to make sure to take care of these terrorists so when he turns them loose they’re good fighting soldiers against our boys.

Falling prices

I’d like to express my opinion about “Stop it” about where whomever wrote the article talking about where the gas has went up, the phone went up, the cars went up and the health insurance has went up. The problem with this country and if this doesn’t stop and do something about it, it’s going to fall. Everyone, and I mean everyone, from the top to the bottom has to give a little. A little would mean a lot. Prices have got to come down. Profit has got to come down or we’re headed straight to the bottom and I mean a Depression.

Editor’s note: What you describe, some economists would refer to as deflation. They say it can be dangerous because companies will lay off large numbers of workers and make significant wage cuts if prices drop uncontrollably.

Candy avenue

For years I have been dressing up for Halloween and going to my parents’ house on Ashland Avenue to hand out candy. It’s something I enjoy doing and something I’ve enjoyed for years. We welcome the costumers and we hope that people continue to trick-or-treat on Ashland; it’s a safe welcoming environment. And in regards to a comment last week from a resident on Ashland: We do welcome the trick-or-treaters and the costumes and hope to continue to do this for years to come. I am in my 40s and I do dress up and sit on the porch at my parents’ house. I don’t want anything someone has said to scare any other residents from around different parts of town who do bring their children, walking on a nice level street, sidewalk and well-lit area. Please don’t be afraid to trick-or-treat in the Ashland area.

Editor’s note: The editor agrees — Ashland is the place for Halloween candy.

Falling prices - editor's note:
Economists can CALL it whatever they want. An old saying goes something like this: "If it looks like a duck, acts like a duck and sounds like a duck, it's probably a duck."

Interpretation (just for you NP folks): What was described is almost identical to what happened during the Depression. You can call it an economical adjustment. You can call it fallout from the past 8 years of Republican control. You can call it deflation....don't really care. It sure sounds like a depression to ME! But hey....what do I know? I'm no economist and I'm CERTAINLY not one who writes "editor's notes"......

These are the same idiots who didn't see any crisis coming.

Gimmie a break - talk about, "I don't wanna hear the people who created the mess to do a lot of talking."

I'm still waiting to hear the news refer to this as a, "jobless recovery."

I've got a pot going at work, $5 gets you in.

Dear ignorant masses,
Please use the gift google gave you:

"The White House says detainees at Guantanamo Bay are not yet receiving vaccinations against the swine flu.

Robert Gibbs on Tuesday said concern that terrorism suspects at the U.S. naval base in Cuba were receiving vaccines was misplaced. Gibbs says no vaccines are at the naval base and none are on the way. A spokesman for the U.S. jail facility a day earlier said guards and then inmates were scheduled for inoculations. Critics were fast to object, saying U.S. civilians were waiting for vaccines while suspected terrorists were being given injections.

Army Maj. James Crabtree said Monday that doses should start arriving this month and medical personnel requested the doses. He said detainees will be vaccinated "entirely on a voluntary basis."

I feel so much better that "the White House" said it.

And, I noticed I guess I misread the latest unemployment statistics....they won't exceed 8%
