Why would the Olive Garden have any violations this soon in the game? They haven't been open long enough to have that many problems. All the places out north should have clean kitchens since they're all new. Their equipment is all new; their floors all new; their managers are all from Kansas City; and they can afford to hire better people from out of town because they have corporate monies to spend. These corporations don't give financially to the community; all their money goes back to out of town corporate offices. It's too bad that our health inspectors want to rid
St. Joe of locally owned businesses that actually make the foods they sell in their places of business.

Just because the chain organizations know how to manage themselves more effectively doesn't mean that the health department is trying to shut down the local businesses.
We need to always keep something in mind...the public goes to these organizations in droves. That is why they are here. A local establishment has the same opportunity and many have been successful in the past, they just have a hard time staying fresh.

So Sweetgal what are you saying? St Joe doesn't have people smart enough to run a clean kitchen? The reason local places struggle is because the managers aren't from Kansas City? That's just ridiculous. So is your assertation that the health inspector picks on local places. Take a look at the entire list and you will see both national chains and local mom and pops on the list. Where is the bias??
People need to back up thier claims. Like I said on the other post, locals have to follow the rules just as corporations do. I would love to have more local places here as well, but lax food safety shouldn't be an incentive to achieve this.
And while the large restaraunts take some profits out of town, they do provide jobs and wages for local folks, let's not forget that.

The local restaurants have provided the same jobs and wages, and probably passed on their just as efficient training to the local people here who leave to work in these more modern places. The coporate businesses certainly do not provide a homey place to work or eat. That's fine, but as one city councilman said, "I-29 has all those cherries going down the highway that just want to do their business in St. Joe." They just don't want to live here. And by the way, I believe St. Joe has some of the best restaurant managers at some of the best local places. And they live here. Can every manager out north say that?

Heritage or Sweetgal, would you like to refute my comments above?
The new establishments are here for a reason, demand. The local places have the same opportunities as the chains. The trick is to provide a atmosphere and experience that will create the same draw as the chains.

Here's whats so funny about all of this. The News-Press puts all this information out here basically to make the locals look bad, but the "so-called new chain restaurants don't even advertise with the local paper. The locals do and get gouged for doing it. So, it obviously doesn't pay to push your business with this paper. As a matter of fact, it hurts everybody. Oh, I'm aware that every business needs to be competitive and they need to be clean whether your in food, retail, research or whatever, but who competes with the local newspaper and who's keeping them above reproach? Who's checkihg on the health inspectors and making sure their honest? I personally feel that sharing Health information about any business or person is a violation of the owner's civil rights. That's for another argument though.

Sorry, no insults there, Heritage. Just the facts. Still haven't found the bias you were talking about. Care to point out how you come to that conclusion?
TFurguson, of course they can't refute your statements. The national restaraunts that are here are because of demand. Some people just don't understand that.

I'm glad that the News-Press is publishing these reports. There are several places I probably won't eat at again. Why should I risk my health or the health of my family eating at these restaurants.

Why not stay home and eat with your family? That way you know how your food is prepared!
