Paging Lynn

Rep. Lynn Jenkins predictably is saying no to Democratic proposals for health care changes. So what would she do? She wants health insurance to be portable and sold across state lines. Somehow I doubt that will be enough to insure millions now uninsured. Somehow I doubt Republicans will ever do much for the uninsured.

Swamped

I am just calling in response to funny figures and the water company wanting to raise prices. We moved here in 2000, and our water bill was around $35 to $38. This year, in the last three months, it has been $73 a month. We still have a number of people in our family. We still use the same amount of water. And you can do the math and see how much the water has gone up in the past nine years.

Lead or leave

I don't care which way the school vote turns out, yes or no. I just think that the school board still needs to get some new people in charge and change the direction that this bunch has taken for the district.

Sour taste

Ashland Avenue is not Candy Avenue. The parents of that caller must have a lot more money than I do. In fact, judging from the number of porch lights that were on Saturday night on Ashland, I would guess that most people cannot afford to buy candy for the whole town or choose not to spend their hard-earned money that way. I would gladly give candy to the neighborhood children and am sad I can never give out candy because it is too much.

Brainless

You know, I realize that our politicians aren't very bright, but let's face it, Afghanistan has an American-backed president who cheated in the election, whose only opponent dropped out because he couldn't get a fair election. And now Afghanistan is saddled with a cheating president. And Hillary Clinton has the brainlessness to say she sees no problem. Yes, this is the quality of our American politicians.

Oh, the shame

There are two things I'm ashamed of. I'm ashamed of being an American, and I'm ashamed of being a person from St. Joseph. St. Joseph is not worth my time because of different reasons. I'm moving out of it as of this month. You can have it. And I'm ashamed of being an American, because of all of you crybabies out there when they bombed the Twin Towers, you agreed we have to go get them. But as soon as your sons and daughters started giving up their lives for the cause, it was stop the war, stop the war.

Just out of curiosity, I'd like to know if the editors have a running joke of printing at least one rambling, nonsensical caller per day?

Today it's 'Oh, the shame'

Republicans and health insurance reform

After the special elections yesterday to fill two vacant seats in the U. S. House of Representatives, Pelosi's Dems hold an 81-seat majority in the House and Harry Reid's Dems have a filibuster-proof 20-seat majority in the Senate.

Pelosi, Reid and Obama can pass any legislation they wish irrespective of any Republican proposals. You may like what you get or you may not, but whatever it turns out to be will not be "tainted" by the Dems' acceptance of any Republican ideas.

Oh, the shame - when you leave, please do not come back! YOU are a disgrace to this country. You are not worth the time it takes to respond to your ignorant remarks; however I am willing to pay the price. It is obvious that you have no loyalty to this country at all.

Good riddance to bad garbage; and you 'Oh, the shame' are the bad garbage!

May God protect the men and women in the Armed Forces who are protecting all of us.

The President loves to preach bipartisanship, but he has never shown any interest in any plan other than his own party's. From one side of his mouth, he talks the good talk like the salesman he is. But on the other side of his mouth, he's nothing but distortions, fabrications, contradictions and outright lies. Here's a good example:

As far back as the campaign, President Obama promised he wouldn't raise taxes on Americans making less than $250,000. But an analysis by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) found that at least 71% of the individual mandate penalties in Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus's (D-MT) bill would be paid by Americans earning less than $250,000. In fact, the nonpartisan analysis found that, of the $2.8 billion in penalties the bill imposes on those who do not purchase health insurance, a full $2 billion will be paid by taxpayers earning less than $120,000 for a family of four.

The Senate Finance bill also levies $215 billion in new taxes on employers and health insurers for offering high-value insurance benefits, which will surely be passed onto all consumers.

Republicans tried to ensure President Obama's words would not ring hollow by offering an amendment that said: "This amendment provides that no tax, fee or penalty imposed by this legislation shall be applied to any individual earning less than $200,000 per year or any couple earning less than $250,000 per year." Guess what? Democrats defeated it. So much for bipartisanship... Why aren't we hearing this in the mainstream media? Where's the outrage?
