KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A charter plane for the U.S. Army carried Sgt. Issac B. Jackson, 27, on his final trip home.
The Kalitta Air Charter transport touched down at about 12:10 p.m. Tuesday, said Jeff Wingo, a public affairs officer from Fort Leavenworth, Kan. An honor guard of soldiers from the 40th Military Police Battalion at Fort Leavenworth stood at attention to receive the casket and transfer it with full-military honors to recognize the bravery and sacrifice of Mr. Jackson, who died on Oct. 27 while serving in the Arghandab Valley, Afghanistan.
At the request of the sergeant’s family, the Patriot Guard provided a 75-member motorcycle escort to Lathrop.
The half-mile-long procession escorted the hearse to Lathrop from Kansas City International Airport, said Clinton County Sheriff Porter Hensen. Sheriff’s deputies provided traffic assistance, Mr. Hensen said.
A second detail of Patriot Guard members remained outside the funeral home during visitation Tuesday evening, said Chris Kelley, a Patriot Guard member.
The sergeant was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, stationed at Fort Lewis, Wash. His awards included the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal and the Combat Infantryman Badge.
