The public is invited to attend a dedication ceremony for St. Joseph Police Officer Brad Arn at 1 p.m. on Nov. 17 near where the officer was slain.

Mr. Arn was killed in the line of duty on November 10, 1998 at the corner of Calhoun and 22nd Streets.

The Family Guidance Center, located at 724 N. 22nd St., now occupies that corner. The agency felt strongly about giving the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge No. 3, a proper place to honor their fallen comrade.

“This is a fitting tribute to Officer Arn, the service he provided and the ultimate sacrifice he made,” said Mike Hardin, a police officer and president of the FOP. “It’s been 11 years since that day, but he has not been forgotten.”

The dedication will take place in the front parking lot at Family Guidance Center. Local and state dignitaries and elected officials have also been invited to join in the dedication.

Following the death of Mr. Arn, the police department emphasized having better weapons and highly trained officers prepared to handle similar circumstances. As a direct result, training for the Special Response Team was elevated.
