WASHINGTON (AP) — Authorities say Fort Hood shooting Nidal Malik Hasan remains in a coma but is expected to live.

A federal law enforcement official said investigators have not been able to talk to Hasan since the deadly rampage that left 13 people dead and injured 30 others at the sprawling Army post in Texas on Thursday.

The initial investigation shows that Hasan allegedly used only one gun during the attack — a 5.7-caliber semiautomatic pistol.

Army officials said Hasan also was carrying another handgun. But the law enforcement official said there's nothing so far to indicate the second weapon was fired.

The law enforcement official spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing.

The bastard should have died.
I lost a dear friend because of his act.
Pull the plugs on him, he killed 13 people, and hurt 31 others
some who will have health issues the rest of their lives.

Just wait until all the sleeper cells WITHIN the US military activates. The proposed number of islamic extremists in the US military is alarming.

This isn't the first time one of them has killed our soldiers from inside. It won't be the last.

Diane Sawyer on Good Morning America suggested it is "so sad" his name wasn't Smith.

An insult to every American and particularly our military.

Good Morning America should be shut down.

Diane Sawyer is still on TV..that is sad. Maybe she should go down and give Hasan a big ole hug.

Funny everyone calls to kill him, hang him, and worse. But all that has been done in the past 11 months is to chase around and threaten to hang all the CIA and FBI officials that were said to infringe on peoples rights. Say what you want about Bush, but during his time in office..People had a JOB, and not one islamic idiot pulled off some act of jihad on our soil. 11 months of Hussien.....13 dead and 30 wounded. And sadly...I am afraid many more to come.

Im sure that all of the bleeding hearts out there will turn it around to be the army's fault somehow. The president will also make excuses for him to turn the attention away from the facts of the incident and B.S. all the americans as usual.

There is an element out there in the world that wants this country and everyone it gone and that mindset no matter how hard we implement philsophies to try and mitigate that element, they will continue to stay with their core beliefs. The best we can do is continue to defend against it, take offensive measures when necessary, and insure this country maintains it integrity and freedom. This is paramount. Regardless of our own internal issues in this country, we need to maintain focus and keep it intact with regards against those who want us gone. It is unfortunate, but in my view, dealing with that part of world, we as a country have to view that arena as a complete enemy who wants to take us out until that area of the world at some point in time reaches stability, a very difficult task. Unfortunately in order to protect and defend this country, extreme measures that may borderline into profiling issues when screening people in security scenarios will be an in issue that arises. That will be a difficult balance, but from experience in that part of the world I have learned one thing, when it comes to core values on their beliefs and faith, they do not waiver and some of those core values are a direct attack on our way of life. I have still yet to hear of any group associated with those ethnic and religious elements over there totally denounce what occured on 9/11. There have been polite and cordial messages about the incident being "unfortunate" and such but never a true statement denouncing it and being highly critical of the extremists who carried that out. We must never, ever forget 9/11. We do not take a strong stance against these people and groups who want us gone, then it shows weakness and the incidents will continue to escalate. If we value our country, then we will put our internal differences aside, and stay united on this one element to defend where we live at all costs.

Um ... 9/11? I'm not saying Bush was at fault, but he WAS president. We can't just act like it didn't happen.

JohnCourter.......your observations are absolutely correct.

We need to drop the political correctness that has tied us down. Sterotyping/profiling is very accurate and very effective. The only reason we don't utilize it as an important tool is "Political Correctness".

Why Political Correctness comes ahead of national security no one will even debate to say nothing of explaining.

Why did "treason" get dropped out of our world. Jane Fonda should have been shot and we should have prosecuted this latest terrorist the minute his web postings were uncovered. We'd have 13 soldiers alive today.

Your observations about how those people think and function is absolutely correct. When they hear that foolishness about GitMo...torture...American values...the Geneva Convention...they get a big belly laugh. "Stupid Americans" That kind of talk is for liberals talking points Nothing else. FDR / Harry Truman / Douglas McArthur / Dwight Eisenhower / George Patton and others all understood and we won wars.

Today we're squandering money and lives to pander to political whims. It's time to shut that all down and get serious if we want an America that is what we grew up in.

Already Good Morning America is saying....Oh gee I wish his name had been Smith. They should be put off the air.

Those who forget (ignore) History are doomed........

This assassin was in OUR military and killed our people. But of course the big ‘O’ has already said "don't jump to conclusions, we don’t know what happened". Oh no, we can't blame the assassin because he’s a Muslim. HOW DARE HE!!

Never mind the FACT that he killed and wounded many American soldiers and a civilian. These were all innocent people; he is a MURDERER! And yet people wonder why we don’t want Muslim’s here. It should be very obvious.

So jumping to conclusions is okay, except in this case?

why did they remove dale-arch? why not? why does he write such stuff? only he knows what goes through his mind. what little there is. just kidding, well , maybe not. it is hard to tell why someone does this kind of an act. depression turned to aggression. if he would have waited he could have taken it out on the enemy. well, we might find out why but there really isn't any reason to take a life even if you are having a bad life. sad and sic.

Im giving this guy no reason to have done what he did...I do say that a life is a life no matter how wicked. You all opt to have this man killed, but now whoever would have killed him is a murderer as well.

i say, remove his first layer of skin and lay him in a tub of salt...but then of course you would need to bathe him in bleach to cleanse off all of the salt granules.

Donaldo...

HE DID TAKE IT OUT ON THE ENEMY! That's the whole point here. The guy was NOT a Palestinian (I don't know who made that accusation above), he was an American, born and bred and he happened to follow the Islamic faith.

What IS interesting, is that his superiors knew of his anti-American beliefs, he even claimed at one point in his life that he WAS a Palestinian. He made Major in what, 7 years?

NOT TO MENTION HE WAS AN ADVISOR ON THE OBAMA PRESIDENTIAL TRANSITION TEAM. I smell a rat and it's trail goes all the way back to Washington.

Mark my words you will not hear Hussein condemn his actions. Anyone want to put money on it?
