Solution needed

I appreciate the fact that Congressman Sam Graves is concerned about our federal deficit being out of control, as am I. But why didn’t he stand up to the Bush administration during those eight years we racked up a record deficit? He voted with Bush 98 percent of the time. I believe we need to do something with our health care, but I would like to hear from my congressman a possible solution — not that it just won’t work.

Bad media

The economy is in a free fall, the common man can’t get the H1N1 flu shot, but the president made sure his two daughters got theirs. President Bush must not care about the American people. Oh, wait, Obama is president now. But you don’t hear the liberal media say one word about the way he is handling this crisis. What a difference a year makes.

Sure cure

For those that won’t want to pay the high property tax that the school system wants, I have a sure cure. Sell your home, rent, and drive a 20-year-old car. That’s exactly what I do, and I laugh all the way to the bank — even though I make $65,000 a year.

Dog gone

Several months ago, in the “Lost” section of the paper, a woman had lost a Great Pyrenees dog. I just ran across one on Craigslist that was found near Gower. I wonder if this could possibly be her dog. According to the ad, he was picked up by others before this and appears to have run for quite a while.

Do something

I notice gasoline is going up. Everybody blamed poor George Bush for this. Now Obama is in office, and I don’t see gas going down. What are we going to do about this? Obama, you’re in office. Take care of it.

Take it on

I agree with the tenor of the editorial on the water rates. Water rates should be based on return on investment, not a statement of the company on how they plan to spend the extra money. I have lived in three other municipalities, and St. Joe water rates are obscene. I urge St. Joe to investigate buying and having their own municipal water system. It might make a lot of sense.

Republican health insurance alternative

The U. S. House of Representatives today will debate and possibly vote on the House version of health insurance reform. The Rules Committee has agreed to allow the Republicans one amendment in the form of a substitute bill. You can read the Republican plan in PDF format at:

Sure cure, way to do your part in supporting your community. This town amazes me in the fact that everyone is so bitter and wants to argue and fight everything. If everyone stoped complaining about things in this town and stepped up to get something done this town might actually achieve something

The idea that Congressman Graves should have stood on the floor of the House of Representatives and challenged the Bush Administration to veto excessive and imprudent spending legislation is a little short of of a full deck. That ain't how politics works, either locally or nationally. You don't stand in front of big spending bills; you'll get steam rollered. Stand aside and growl. Or better yet, weep.
