St. Joseph fire crews fought a fire in a motel room Saturday morning.

A fire was discovered at about 7:30 a.m. in a room at Motel 6, located behind Denny’s Restaurant near Interstate 29 and Frederick Boulevard, said Bob Bangerter, a battalion chief. “Firemen had the blaze out before I even arrived on the scene,” Mr. Bangerter said.

The fire damaged a second-floor room, and there was some water damage in the manager’s apartment below the room, Mr. Bangerter said. An inspector’s report on the cause and damage wasn’t available.
