P.R. move

The reason Ronald Reagan was forgotten on the anniversary of the falling of the Berlin Wall is because he had nothing to do with it. Plans for the wall to be taken down were already in motion when he grabbed the opportunity for a photo op. Like any actor, he was trying to steal some of the glory for himself.

On the job

Why does it seem like the only people who are working on Veterans Day are the veterans?

Patience, please

For you people who keep saying President Obama can’t make a decision to send or not to send troops to Afghanistan, it’s more than that. We are not going to win there. The only way we could win is to kill all of them, which is not going to happen. Also, the Taliban weren’t the ones who attacked us. It was bin Laden. The Taliban is starting talks with us, so maybe we can start a truce. Give him a little more time.

Bad dress

I was in a restaurant yesterday, and there were a couple of kids in there, probably between 15 and 18. They had their baggy pants on and had to wear long shirts to hide what wasn’t covered up. I think they ought to outlaw improper dress in public places. I get tired of looking at the eyebrow rings, nose rings and a dozen earrings in one ear. They outlaw the smoking. They outlaw the Ten Commandments. I think they should outlaw this, too.

Puzzling

I don’t understand. I read one news item in Wednesday’s paper that there was going to be a shortfall in Missouri Western’s budget. Then I read elsewhere that they were spending in excess of $3 million for a new baseball and softball field. Don’t they use Phil Welch Stadium and city softball fields for free? I don’t get it.

Some speech

I recently witnessed the most outrageous news conference by a president about a mass shooting in this country. It started with President Obama talking about the Native Americans, and then he gives a shout out to his friends in the front row. And then, finally, he gets around after two or three minutes to talk about the shooting at Fort Hood, as if it were nothing. It was disgraceful.

Bag thief

I was in a grocery store today and had my cart with groceries in it, and I also had three bags that I brought from home. I had to go to the restroom. I took my purse and left my cart there. And when I came out, someone had taken my three bags. I could not believe it. I wonder, what is going to happen next?

Bad dress... As teenagers we all were looked at like freaks from older citizens, I'm sure I was. The thing is people like to express their individualities and this is this generations way of doing so. You are probably one of the same people that complain about freedoms being taken away as you do toward the end of your comment yet you just as quick want to take someone elses away.

About the kids dress today.I also find it very disturbing they way they look today.I have a 22 year old that to some extent wears this crap and catches hell from me all of the time for not pulling up his pants but he never got any of those piercings because he was to afraid of what would happen to him when he got home.
I understand they want to express themselves but if you look back over time I have never seen crap like this.
They must also think about all of these piercings when they go out into the community for a job with all of those piercings.I also find it very appoling that when my wife and little children are at the store and these kids are showing their butts there is laws on the books that deal with in deacent exposure maybe one need to made a example of then they would not wear this crap showing the world their butts all of the time.Maybe they should just stop making pants like this.

It is so sad to go to the Parade Downtown. Where are the people??? There are more people in the parade than watch the parade. I know they let schools out early, banks are closed and other offices. I know that this town is full of people that love this country. I know that people work just like me, and it might be hard to get an hour off to go to the parade. However, at least try to come out and support those that have kept our country free.

The schools have dress codes. But the kids have ways around them. Girls can wear micro-mini skirts if they wear a pair of tights underneath. Why can't we go to a standard dress code? White shirt & khaki pants. Its cheaper for parents and puts the focus on learning and not on who wears what.

I don't remember crap like this either. I mean except for poodle skirts, sidewinders, the hippies, glam rock, punk rock, hair metal, white men with afros, colored and spiked mohawks, face rings, nipple chains, bell bottoms, polyester suits with butterfly collars, acid washed jeans filled with holes, assless chaps. flappers, zoot suits, Woodstock...

I don't care for the dress either, but to act like every generation didn't have their own crap styles is comical.

Try suggesting that the schools adopt uniforms to the powers that be. You'll be treated like a nut job.

FYI - uniforms are cheaper than what most parents spend except those that send their kids to school in the same dirty cloths for a week but that's a different topic.

Yes you are right every generation had their own style but none I can remember walked around with their pants to their knees showing their butts in public.I mean what the heck is the purpose of this.It is indecent exposure as far as I am concerned.Enforce those laws and I bet it would change fairly quickly.

drbjr,
Why do you think the sjsd would treat you like a nut job if you suggested a uniform dress policy?Just curious it would solve issues in our schools if they had one.

Bad Dress,

I totally agree with the sagging pants and a lot of skin showing... Piercings and what nots, not a big deal! I have a lot of earrings, have had my nose and tongue pierced.. I liked them, and they didn't harm anyone. I'm not fond of older people who wear so much perfume you can barely stand to be in the room with them, or the tight, polyester pants they wear hiked up to their belly buttons... But it isn't harming anyone. (Okay, actually, I do get pretty bad headaches from people who douse themselves with perfumes..)

Trends will come and go... if you aren't keen on change, go live in an Amish community or somewhere that has a dress code. That way you can be happy.

Fads come and go but this one is the worst I have ever seen and I am still young.

The empty suit in the white house has had since August to make a decision. How long must our troops wait for reinforcements ? Put his worthless fraud behind out there and give him the same and see if he makes a decision. Either he is going with troops or pull out don't sit idly by and let our hero troops die because they do not have support. This infantile clown is too busy seeking style points in front of his teleprompter. P.R. move:

How nice that you were privy to what was going on behind the iron curtain.

I was living in West Germany before, during and after Mr. Reagan’s historic speech in June of 1987. I also traveled into East Germany several times before and after the Wall “came down” in November 1989. The Wall didn’t actually “come down” at this time, but the East Germans were allowed to travel to the West with a stamp.

I saw absolutely no sign of the Communists relenting in their control over East Germany before his visit.

So are we including workers whose pants can't seem to stay and and we keep seeing butt cleavage as well?

I have honestly not seen any of the baggy pants where I have seen any skin. I've seen there pants around there knees, but they all had shorts on under them.

It's still comical to hear people complain about this "skin"; why haven't they complained all summer about the 3 square inches of coverage over each nipple and the crotches of the girls out in their "swim suits".

Women for decades have shown as much skin as they can get by with; even Bob Hope joked at least 40 years ago that if the skirts got any shorter, that women would have to wear a second hair net and powder two more cheeks. Really, we're just picking on kids today the same way the generation before picked on us.

The Berlin wall came down a year after Reagans speech. No, he wasn't fully responsible for it. But at least he had the nuts to say it was wrong. But as usual, in order to fluff up Hussien, they now have to tear down another president. The Bush blaming seems to look more ridiculous everyday, so now you have to resort to attacking Reagan? The first thing out of anyone's mouth whenever Obama does something is to compare him to past presidents. See..his kid is playing in the oval office...he is JFK! The report of him speaking at Fort Hood started off with "This speech is just like Reagan's after the shuttle disaster, and Bush after 911". See..he is doing something historic like other presidents,,,except better..some how.I fully expect before the end of his term he will be one up on Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, both Roosevelts, Harry Truman, Eisenhower, and JFK. All found to really do nothing in our history compared to Obama. LOL I fully expect that after we get the rest of the Swine flu vaccine in..uh..December...or March, or whenever UPS delivers it from Australia, they will take Lincoln off the 5 dollar bill and put Obama on it.

Puzzling, I agree. I actually talked to a group of spring sport athletes yesterday before a class at MoWest. They informed me that students come to MWSU for the sports programs. He also said that there would be less than a 1000 students enrolled if it wasn't for the athletic department.

I have 4 members of my immediate family including myself currently attending MWSU. I don't recall a mention of the football baseball or soccer team when we all decided to go to MWSU.

When talking to a professor concerning this subject, she laughed and said that for years she has been able to see the building a half block away from a crack in the structural wall of her office.

I am puzzled to...MWSU are athletes the only thing you care about? How about throwing as much money at the scholars coming though your doors? How about an equivalent of "Max Experience" dedicated to improving the quality of education and infrastructure for all enrolled at MWSU?

As for the MWSU athletes I spoke to...get some perspective, athletes do not rule the real world. When you graduate, the chances of getting a job with the MLB or other organizations are slim

And yes..every generation has its own style that the next doesn't agree with. I mean who of us that wore all that horrid stuff in the 70's don't cringe at the thought of those bell bottoms and hip hugger jeans and loud patterns that don't match and white belts..and..umm..no..wait those all came back.I mean..how can we argue with kids wearing the latest prison issue garb?? They are simply preparing for thier future. And what kid doesn't want to be like the dudes running from the police with one hand holding his pants up?? And wear whatever is in style or the fad..we did. If that includes pants with the crotch at the knees, and jewelry dangling form your nose highlighting the tattoo on your neck and the one on your forehead that says "unemployable" so be it. But pull your damn pants up so you don't have to be some loser that has to walk around with his underwear showing to get attention. It is lewd, and offensive.

The baggy pants style has been worn since 1995, which makes it a long trend, fashion-wise. Baggy pants is a ridiculous look and can't be that convenient (the pockets are down by the knees forcing the wearer to bend over to utilize them, not to mention having to waddle to get around). I've heard that youths will stop a trend once the older generation pick it up, so you old fellas need to drop trou and now!

It's a shame how liberal history revisionists like "P.R. Move" have so distorted the role of Mr. Reagan in bringing down the Berlin Wall. This misreading of history actually discredits President Reagan for his role. He wa one of the few Western leaders to properly understand not just the weaknesses of the Communist system, but also how they could be exploited to hasten the demise of the Soviet Union and bring freedom to millions around the world. Reagan never stopped speaking out on Communism, even when it was unfashionable to do so. He consistently decried the policy of detente, which had left unchallenged aggressive Communist expansion around the world. In the decade before Reagan become president, 10 new nations had come under Soviet domination, and Communism appeared to be on the march worldwide. Reagan never wavered in his conviction that freedom would eventually triumph over totalitarianism. He came to office with the belief the United States and other free nations should use all aspects of political, military, economic, diplomatic and cultural power to defeat Communism. Once he got to the White House, he put those ideas into practice unlike the present occupant. We should pay tribute to the brave men and women who fought for freedom and justice on both sides of the Iron Curtain, and that most certainly includes a special thanks to President Reagan.

All I can tell you is...I grew up in a generation that had drills to know where the nearest nuclear war shelter was.Our entire national defense was geared to respond to a Russian attack. After the Reagan years, nobody even knew where those shelters were..or cared. To bad he didn't win the nobel award. And he was labeled a crazy old man when he came up with the star wars plan. Now we have sattelites that can take photos of our enemies, lasers, microwaves, and probably alot more that is a military secret. Not so crazy was he? For me, the 80's were the most fun, and prosperous time of my life, and alot of others. These lame brains today will run this country so far down, we will never be what it was when Reagan was president. And that goes for all of them.

Let's see,Regan had nothing to do with bringing down the wall? Reminds me of the history teacher who taught my son that Nixon started the Vietnam war.

The Taliban are starting talks with us so maybe we can start a truce? Let's send Jimmy Carter as soon as possible.

Kid's cloths, we all survived the "Rebel Without A Clue Stage". One day they'll need a job to support themselves, settle down to raise a family, and in a decade and a half, they'll be wondering why their kids dress funny. It's a kind of circle of life thing.

Budget shortfalls seem to be a fact of life at colleges and universities, nationwide. Tax revenues are down as a result of the economy. Sport's complexes are generally not built on a spur of the moment whim. The project was most likely planned and implemented before the crunch.

I didn't see the President's conference that you referenced, but I very seriously doubt that he meant to make light of the tragedy.

Sorry to hear about the bag theft. One would hope we live in a community where people are above that sort of thing.

I could care less about someone wearing baggy shorts if I can't see their bare bottom, it's just sad many of the people don't know the origans of this "fashion trend". In lock-up it is a symbol that someone is available. As far as body art, how one chooses to alter their apperance in no affects my life. It's simply self expression. If they are unable to gain employment with certain companies then oh well, if they have to remove them as a rule then they will if they wish to continue employment. For those individuals who make snap desissions about a person who enjoys body art, I have pitty for them. My mother has always taught me the moral belief that you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover. Many individuals who express their individuality are kinhearted people who would go above and beyond to help another person. As an example look at the bad reputation many motorcycle owners have become known with, yet they host benifit rides for a number of causes, the toy programs for children they have for christmas and other worthy causes they show a passion for. Look beyond the surface and you will find interesting, caring, community minded people who just so happen to have diffrent taste of style than yourself.

So be if they can not have a certain job, there are jobs they can work where peircings are allowed. Like I said about the pants, unless they are not showing bare bottom they are doing no harm. Yes they may look like fools but no skin no law being broken. I have yet to witness a person whom wears baggy pants to go "comando". I think it has been mentioned that many in addition to wearing some type of under garment also have on a pair of gym shorts also. I don't see how if a person has the rear end covered with some type of frabic under the pants how that is a violation of an indecency law. Just because we may not like something and would not show such poor taste as another dose mean we need to create laws or redefine existing laws to make such fashion illegal. Most would agree that the government already has too big of a hand in our daily lives so why then do so many feel the government needs to handel such a trivial matter as baggy shorts? I am not saying that your points have no merit with reguards to how you or your family dress but if everything is covered then let it be.

problem is there is skin showing over 50% of the time you see these pants on people. And if skin is showing the indecent exposure laws are not being redefined just enforced.Like I said I personally find it unacceptable to my wife and children to have to see the crack of these people butts.Pull your pants up and buy some that fit and will stay up they can still drag in the back side but stay up around your hips.
And those jobs where all of these piercings can be worn are all minimum wage jobs with no benefits how long can they go through life like this.

mm so we agree on the pants then, they can sag as long as skin is not being shown. As far as minimum wage jobs, if they are able to get by on the wages they make with or without benifits, dose that make them less of a person? Some minimum wage jobs offer benifits and some don't, they same can be said about other jobs that pay better wages and in some peoples eyes have a higher prestige. I find it in bad taste to judge someone by their job. Everybody has a job to do and a lawyer in my eyes is no better a person than a garbage collector and a doctor is not a better person than a someone who serves food as a living. Too many times people place someone in certain groups due to their jobs, which once again is judging a book by it's cover.
