Reports of a shooting at Bessie Ellison School on Friday were false, school officials said.
Kim Siela, Bessie Ellison principal, said someone called the Buchanan County sheriff's department about the school being on lockdown after shots were fired Friday afternoon.
Shots were fired nearby, but they came from hunters in the wooded area near the school, she said. At no time was there any cause for alarm at the school.
"At no time were any students in danger, at no time were we locked down, no time where there were shots near the school whatsoever," Ms. Siela said.
"It was comforting to know that (law enforcement officials) responded very quickly," she added.
