Area river levels start to drop

Flood warnings have been extended for Chillicothe and Platte City, but river levels are starting to drop as sunny conditions return to Northwest Missouri.

The National Weather Service's extended warnings cover the Grand River in Chillicothe and the Platte River near Platte City. The latest weather service report indicated that the Platte River was at 20.6 feet in Platte City on Wednesday afternoon but was expected to drop below flood stage, which is 20 feet, on Thursday.

In Agency, which reported lowland flooding earlier in the week, the Platte River was at 14 feet Thursday and was continuing to drop below flood stage.

In Chillicothe, the Grand River was at 25 feet Thursday morning but was dropping from its high of 30 feet earlier in the week. Flood stage is 24 feet.

St. Joe Now predicts partly sunny conditions and highs in the 50s Thursday and Friday.
