Reward offered for stolen weapons

$1,000 for information regarding theft

A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the recovery of stolen police weapons or the arrest of the people responsible for the theft.

The Buchanan County Criminal Justice Foundation and the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 3 are providing a $1,000 cash reward for information about the theft of a black Colt AR-15, 223-caliber, 16-inch barrel, collapsible stock, with one magazine; a black Rock River M4 AR-15, 223-caliber, 11-inch barrel, with an M3 Aim Point site; a Sure Fire Light and a M-900A fore-grip; Sig Sauer P226 40-caliber pistol with a TLR Stream Light firearm tac light; a Point Blank tactical vest and an AA Arms NFDD Flash Bang.

The weapons and equipment were taken on Nov. 10 from a police vehicle parked at an officer's home. The usefulness of information provided in the recovery/arrests is the primary determining factor for reception of the cash reward, said Capt. Kevin Castle, a police spokesman.

People with information are encouraged to call the Police Department's detective division at 271-5336. If they wish to remain anonymous, they can call the TIPS hotline at 238-TIPS. All calls to the hotline are confidential.

Looks like they really want their items back and have no clues or laeds right now. The whole situation is bad, I only hope the SJPD has corrected flaws in protocol. They lost a lot of face with this incident. I still think most officers are not this careless and understand the need of these weapons as tools of the trade. I still support our Police Deparment. They keep us safe in most cases from harm.
