St. Joseph is getting a little bit of Texas.
Texas Roadhouse announced plans on Monday to build a 7,000-square-foot restaurant at the East Hills Shopping Center. It is scheduled to open by the summer of 2010.
"We are thrilled to be bringing Texas Roadhouse to the St. Joseph community," said Travis Doster, director of public relations for Texas Roadhouse.
The new restaurant will be located on the East Hills property next to Ground Round. It will be the seventh Texas Roadhouse in Missouri.
"Texas Roadhouse is an excellent complement to East Hills' existing shopping, dining and entertainment line-up," said Ashley Albers, general manager at East Hills.
Based in Louisville, Ky., the chain is best known for its steaks and ribs but also has chicken dishes, fish, salads and homemade breads. Since opening in 1993, the company has grown to 330 locations in 46 states.
In its third-quarter financial report, the publicly traded company said it plans to open 15 restaurants nationwide in 2010.
In 2004, Restaurant & Institution Magazine highlighted Texas Roadhouse and it was voted No. 1 for menu variety and value. In 2009, it was ranked as a top value by Consumer Choice magazine.
"The price points of this restaurant make it easy for our shoppers to get a high-value meal at a great price," Ms. Albers said.
Texas Roadhouse is one of the first major tenants to move into the East Hills property, though not inside the mall itself, since the shopping center underwent a $131 million renovation that included $46.4 million in public incentives.

honored that another chain restaurant is coming to st joseph? right next to another, which will likely close, not because one is SO much better than the other, but simply different and new?
i know market forces should work, and they obviously will, but honored? i don't think so.
now, if a nice independent vegetarian , tapas, thai, or vietnamese venue were opening, i would be excited!
