Volunteers Work in Outside Classroom
by Rob Schmidt
Thursday, October 1, 2009

It was a nice day to spend in the garden for the students at Helen M. Davis State School Wednesday. When St. Joe Now first reported on this story back in April, there wasn't much of a garden to speak of. Now, the dirt's been turned, some plants put in, and on Wednesday the students planted flower bulbs that will come in next year. The folks from Prudential-Summers were there to help the kids. The "outside classroom" is designed to create a sensory appeal and learning motivation for students who are educationally challenged.

Dona Reynolds, a Kiwanis Club Member and Prudential employee, was instrumental to the creation of the garden. She said Prudential employees are calling this a learn and grow project. The prudential employees worked in the garden as part of Prudential's global volunteer day.
