‘Frigid’ winter ahead?
Cooler trend expected to continue
by Jennifer Hall
Friday, October 2, 2009

Cooler weather is here, and a much different winter could be just around the corner.

The impact of El Niño on weather patterns over North America is expected to be the greatest during the winter months, according to the Climate Prediction Center, a sector of NOAA’s National Weather Service.

The agency says that mean winter temperatures in the area have most often been above average in the last decade. But that’s about to change with developments in El Niño.

“It’s been a lot cooler than normal,” said Lindie Patton, weather specialist with St. Joe Now.

There has been a drop in the average temperature since June. In July, it was 5.8 degrees cooler than normal and 2.8 degrees cooler than normal for August and September. There were only 11 days in June where the temperature reached 90 degrees, six days in July and none for August.

Below-median precipitation is most likely for parts of the Mississippi and Ohio valleys, while above-median precipitation is expected for the entire Southern U.S. this winter.

The Farmers Almanac says this year’s winter will be “frigid,” especially in the Midwest.

STJOEREPLANT--actually yes.this is a direct reflection of global warming. this is natures way of re-cooling the earth proven by scientists. they say much of the earths history has been ice ages. according to various documents it is said that increasing ice storms with less snow, is an indicator of much more harsh times ahead.

Isn't the article correlating "El Ninos" and haven't we had them (along with interspersed "La Ninas") for a really long time, along with periods where there is neither? Why appeal to an entirely different theory of weather when we already have an explanation that involves measureable water temperature changes in the Pacific?

Are you serious??

This has nothing to do with global warming and it doesn't prove nor disprove it! The cooler than usual temps this winter are going to be caused by Il Nino (which is the periodic warming of water in the tropical Pacific Ocean). It happens occasionally. It's nothing unusual and it will happen again in another couple years.

Keep the politics out of it, it's just weather!

I'm just wondering....from you environmental whackos who still feel the current weather is a result of "global warming".....
If we're headed into another Ice Age, due to global warming.....what sort of cars, factories, pollution, etc, did they have on the earth the LAST time this happened? After all.....you've already SAID it's happened before...right?

There actually WERE humans to witness the last Ice Age, but it was 'prehistoric' so there were no written languages to read all about it. There were others, prior to humans, too. And there will be ones in the future that have nothing to do with whatever is currently going on. We are pretty sure they last a really long time and take quite awhile to get up and going. THAT is the only controversy, whether or not we are witnessing the preliminary stages. If we are, there seems to be things that we are doing that speed the process up and we really ought to quit doing those things. Just because Pops and the rest of us will be dead when it is all certain and undeniable is no reason we shouldn't behave better and slow things back down to what would happen if we weren't contributing to the problems. our obligations are to our kids and grandkids but it doesn't stop there. There are many generations yet to come and they all depend upon us being better caretakers of this big blue marble.

for the people that doubt this, please google it or better yet call your local high school science teacher even. its very apparent whats causing all of this and although el nino might have some sort of influence, its much much larger. this will all start being worse as worm wood approaches in 2012. and no IM NOT SAYIN WE'RE GOING TO DIE IN 2012. but it is forseen that more harsh temps and natural disasters are culminating towards 2012. read up people....or visit www.theihc.com if want more info

POPS. i beleive its not what were doing now...although it is contributing. but this is just a cycle the earth takes. its how it mends and revives itself. afterall the "muck" found in alaska. is frozen vegetation and mammoths. proof of a once warm area to be frozen. plates shift, earthquakes rattle and volcanos erupt. earth is ever changing and it just so happens that we get to see it happen. but on a real honest request...PLEASE SEARCH ENGINE IT BY WHATEVER MEANS. i wouldnt want anyone to be blind sided by the coming changes. this all peaks in 2012. what happens after that who knows. but the evidence is just to compelling to mearly laugh off. there lol now i sound like a whacko lol

I in no way believe in any of the 2012 therory about anything. The world is going to end ,we all are going to die and this and that.Remember when it changed from 1999 to 2000 things were going to change as well and we all went right past midnight and everything was the same the next morning and everything was working.
