CHILLICOTHE, Mo. — A rear-end collision on U.S. Highway 36, about two miles west of Chillicothe, injured three people from there at about 11 a.m. Sunday.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Alex McCollum, 11, and Lucas McCollum, 10, were transported to Hedrick Medical Center and transferred by a medical helicopter to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. Alex was reported to have sustained serious injuries and his brother minor injuries.

The Highway Patrol stated that the accident happened as Amanda McCollum, 21, drove a 2002 Saturn east on the highway and ran into the rear end of a 2009 Chevrolet pickup driven by Ronald Beetsma of Mooresville, Mo. Ms. McCollum sustained minor injuries and was transported to Hedrick by private vehicle. All three McCollum’s were wearing seatbelts. No update from either hospital was available Sunday evening. Mr. Beetsma, 60, wasn’t injured.
