South Side Home Invasion
by Bob Heater
Tuesday, October 13, 2009

The Buchanan County Sheriffs Department continues it's investigation of a home invasion near Lake Contrary last night.

It occurred around 10:45pm at a home in the 6100 block of Southwest Lake Front Lane.

Sgt. Shawn Collie tells St. Joe Now a family of two adults and two children were in the home when two males armed with handguns came through the front door.

The male occupant was tied up by the two suspects while the mother huddled in a bedroom with the children who were asleep. Sgt. Collie says the man suffered superficial wounds when he confronted the two men but did not seek medical attention. The two left the home with jewelry, handguns and medications.

Deputies are attempting to tie this incident to other home invasions that have occured in and around the St. Joseph area.

Collie says the best defense against this type of attack, is to be aware of what's going on in the neighborhood.

If you have any information on this incident, you are urged to call the sheriff's department at 816-271-4777 or the anonymous TIPS hot line at 816-238-TIPS>
