This is: Todd Agnew
by Blake Hannon
Tuesday, October 13, 2009

With the contemporary Christian music acts on The Promise Remains Tour, newcomers Kimber Rising have the R&B angle covered, and Building 429 plans to bring the rock edge. So what does that leave singer/songwriter Todd Agnew to do? “We kind of jump in and play every other style of music left,” Agnew jokes. Since getting a record deal with Arden Records at the better-late-than-never age of 32, the veteran Memphis musician, now 38, gained a following by crafting pop-rock caked in a dirty blues influence aided by his deeply splintered baritone but also delving into other genres like country, hard rock and reggae. His fifth label release, “Need,” continues to expand his songwriting palette while tackling serious faith-based issues of praise and struggle and further establishes him as an contemporary Christian act of increasing importance. “As a musician as a whole, I’ve probably changed from being the new guy on the block,” he says. Todd Agnew will perform on The Promise Remains Tour at 7 p.m. Oct. 22 at the Cornerstone Church, 901 Adam Drive, Chillicothe, Mo. Tickets are $10. For more info, visit www.thepromiseremainstour.com.
