A St. Joseph Fire Fighter works the scene at an early morning fire at Ventura Food. Total damages are estimated at $150,000, according to an inspector with the fire department.

An electrical fire in a maintenance building destroyed an office and the contents of part of a storage area Thursday at Ventura Foods.

The cause appears to be electrical and firefighters confined the blaze to the inside of the building in the southeast corner, said Steve Henrichson, an inspector with the St. Joseph Fire Department. While the fire didn’t break through the roof, the total estimated damages are $150,000, Mr. Henrichson said.

Firefighters got the call at 2:07 a.m. Thursday and made short work of the blaze.

The firemen remained on the scene for two hours checking for hot spots, Mr. Henrichson said.

The fire didn’t enter the main building at 6000 Industrial Road. The company packages oils, margarine and shortening at its South Side plant.
