Enemy within

I’m a history buff. I majored in history in college. I have a master’s degree. And it’s no cliché to say history repeats itself. Sectional rivalries have never been more pronounced in this country. People don’t want to seem to deal in facts and evidence that boils down to personal attacks on all levels from the left and right. And I would remind the citizenry of this town and of this country that a house divided against itself cannot stand. People, wake up. The enemy is within, not out, and it’s all of us.

*******

Love the flag

I would like to comment on “Defend flag.” I really don’t think our president wants the American flag flying in our country. He wants a flag of a different sort. So every American, get your flags out and fly them. Take them in at night and bring them out in the daytime. Let’s be true Americans.

*******

Close to home

You think Obama isn’t trying to destroy this nation? Now they’re going to turn terror suspects from Gitmo loose in the United States. That’s what this president is doing for us. We’re going to have a war right here in America trying to fight all these terrorists that he’s letting into this country.

*******

Typhoid carry

I was wondering why the local postmaster is allowing my mail carrier to deliver mail when he is sick with the flu. When you stop and think, every piece of mail a mail carrier handles, how many households are those mail carriers infecting when the post office isn’t making them stay home when they’re sick?

*******

Unknown

I would like to know why the district isn’t telling us what they’re going to cut this time if the levy doesn’t pass? Last time they said they would cut two schools and they would cut jobs, but we’re hearing nothing.

*******

Why wait

I would like to know why the property tax value information has not gone out yet to the citizens. It seems that the city and the school district are working together and they’re waiting to see if this bond levy passes for the school district. It’s totally not fair and the statements need to go out as soon as possible.

Editor’s note: It was noted in previous News-Press stories that the outcome of the Nov. 3 election will not affect this year’s bills. The levy, if approved, would be placed on next year’s tax bills.

Typhoid carry - are you the same person who complained that your mail didn't arrive when you wanted it? Or are you the person who complained about the cost of postage? What about you being the person who complained about the long line at the post office to get a stamp? Oh, you must be the person who complained about the possibility of cutting back from six to only five days delivery. You certainly aren't the person who gets the same type junk mail that I've had in my mailbox.

Flu germs? You'd blame them on the mail carriers if you just happened to catch it from the dog catcher.

We do need to be careful not to spread the flu. I know that someone could fill in that is not sick so the mail men and women could stay home and get better. For their sake and ours.

Enemy within

America always felt and expressed sorrow for the oppressed populations of those third world countries dominated by ruthless self-serving dictators....now we know why.

Enemy within, good point.

Love the Flag, which flag exactly do you feel the president would have us all fly?

Close to home, I heard they are letting a bus full of detainees out at Al's Truck stop this afternoon at 330, perhaps you can watch for them and alert the authorities upon their arrival.

Typhoid carrier, maybe you should get a post office box so the evil mail carrier doesn't infect the neighborhood.

Why Wait, asked and answered but additionally I think there is a certain time frame when tax statements are sent out per state statute, but I could be wrong. Anyone know about this for sure?

HAVE A GREAT DAY!!!!!

This is about the article with the person who was given a ticket for walking down the middle of the street. He probably should have been givin a ticket but he has a valid point. The St. Joseph police dept. is very dishonest and corrupt and should be investigated and for that reason alone I support the person in his effort in the courts.

Okay, once more for the numbskulls out there. The detainees from Gitmo HAVE NOT BEEN TRIED FOR ANYTHING! You all assume these people are terrorists based on what? The lies and mistakes from the Bush administration? The fact that some of them are Afghani? Most of these men did nothing wrong except get caught on the wrong side of a war.
And guess what? Most of them were not Al Queda or Taliban until WE locked them up for 5+ years in appalling conditions and denied them legal recourse.

silver pegasus.......boy have they got you fooled. Almost 100% of those "men" were picked up on the "battlefield" with weapons....and it was obvious to any reasonable person that their activity, at that time, was killing and attempting to kill Americans. Getting caught is sure enough on the wrong side of the ewar. Killing Americans is not acceptable in my book.

The conditions are hardly "appaling". They are indeed resort-style impecabble. Every left wing organization that has a travel budget has been in to "check it out". They have every ammenty known to man. They are accomodated in every concevible manner

The place is so Muslim-friendly that I want to puke. Even the troops guarding them have special training to be certain they are pandered to. It is the cleanest prision in the United States system. We spend more money per prisioner, per day for these dispecable creatures than any other facility in the United States.

When they took up weapons and attempted to kill Americans (and did kill over 3000) they forfeited "legal recourse". They should have never been "prisioners'....they should have been shot on the spot.

CASEY 77.........."The St Joseph Police Department is dishonest and corrupt".....you should sign your name so someone could sue you for slander. You are 100% wrong and there is no evidence to the contrary. The St Joseph Police do a pretty good job under not necessarily perfect conditions. You should get down on your knees and say "Thank you". It's people like you that are the problem and need some shoring up.

casey77,
Exactly how many police officers do you actually know in St. Joe? You just called a good number of my friends....good, honest, hard-working men and women, dishonest and corrupt. I KNOW these people. They're not what you've said, so all I can imagine is you have zero idea what you're talking about....you don't know them....and you're speaking as someone who is angry about the work they do....ENFORCING THE LAW!! What a shame you, and others in this town, castigate and criticize the very men and women who protect and serve their community!!

My hat is off to the men and women in our community who serve in uniform....police and sheriff department, fire departments, EMS and military!!

In 2003 multiple Uighur Chinese Muslims were cleared for release from Guantanamo and they remain locked away.

grandpacory........what are you suggesting.....?

there certainly is no obligtion for the United States to accomodate them......if they can't go back where they came from, that's there lookout.

Probably the best thing would be to put them back on the battle field where we found them and maybe we wouldn't be so stupid (as to take them alive) the second time.

I think it was Shakespeare that say, "All the the world is a battlefield."

Wait, no...that was Dick Cheney.

These 17 men were not engaged in battle when taken as "enemy combatants". They lived on the Chinese border town Xinjiang which is an isolated region that borders Afghanistan, Pakistan. Their crime was being at the wrong place while being Muslim.

They were cleared of all charges over six yrs ago. China will not take them because the Uighur refuse communism and has "advised" other countries not to accept them. China is in the process of committing genocide on the Uighur people alongside the Tibetans.

But, yeah lbc. You're right we should have just killed them and saved the Chinese the trouble. Moron.
