Unfortunately for Bishop LeBlond, it was the same story with a different foe as Trenton dismantled the Golden Eagles 47-7 Friday night at Eagle Field.

The Bulldogs (2-7) wasted no time in jumping out to a 21-0 lead behind running back Dalton Preston’s pair of touchdowns­ — two 48-yarders early in the first quarter.

“Dalton is a good football player, and we have known that all year,” said Trenton coach Wes Croy. “He really has been our main weapon since our starting quarterback got hurt in Week 5.”

However, the Eagles (0-9) had a glimmer of hope late in the first quarter when Taylor Lorenz took an 81-yard kickoff return to the end zone and cut the Bulldogs’ lead to 21-7 after Mark Nold’s extra point was successful.

Four punts, four sacks, a fumble and a turnover on downs made up the story during the next three quarters for LeBlond.

Trenton’s Scotty Dolan continued to step up and filled in nicely at the quarterback position since starter Tony Thompson went down. Dolan has now recorded back-to-back 100-yard rushing games after he ran for 130 yards on nine carries Friday night to go along with two scores.

Dolan basically finished off the Eagles after running for a 57-yard touchdown late in the third quarter to end the scoring at 47-7. Both teams went scoreless in the final quarter.

Preston rushed for 249 yards on 18 carries to go along with four touchdowns.

“I have a lot of respect for coach (Steve) Vertin and LeBlond football,” Croy said. “I know they will get things straightened out there as well.”

The Eagles have now lost 11 straight games dating back to last season and are in jeopardy of adding to that streak as they are set to finish the season at Maryville, which is ranked No. 5 in Class 2.

“All I have to say is this is high school football, and these guys are busting their butts out there,” Vertin said. “Are we perfect? No. But they are giving it their best. We really just broke down on some assignments tonight.

“Trenton is much better then their record.”
