Come see upgrades
The St. Joseph Animal Shelter, in conjunction with the Friends of the Animal Shelter, has made some improvements.
The kennels have been painted a lighter color so that the dogs can be seen more easily, the air duct system has been redone in the cat area so that the cats are healthier, a new area in the back with extra kennels has been created, landscaping outside has been done and there is a new cremation unit with a structure to house it — and these are just the improvements you can see.
New programs have been added. Come to our open house today from 1 to 4 p.m. at the shelter to see what your tax money and generous donations are doing. We are giving away gift certificates and 100 free cups of Edy’s Ice Cream. We also will serve refreshments. You might also find your next best friend and see why St. Joseph Animal Control and Rescue was named the state “Shelter of the Year” for 2009.
Thank you to all our donors and supporters.

Nice to see that my tax dollars are going to making the shelter pretty before these poor animals are killed for being at the shelter too long...kind of seems like waste to me...I really doubt they could care less about the pre-death conditions they are living in...So good to see my tax money going there and people can be donors but whine they have no money , but we cant provide funds for our schools..disgusting
I feel that a good animal shelter is very important to the community as well as our schools. I cannot imagine our community without a shelter. Lets look at the positives. We do not know what the future holds, we haven't voted yet.
****but we cant provide funds for our schools..disgusting
Really? If the levy doesn't pass (like it didn't the first time) we don't provide any funding at all for schools? Who pays for the car allowance for the Super? KCPL?? The Newspress?
