Grandma Betty of St. Joseph will celebrate her 85th birthday on October 30 at a reception given by her family from 6 to 8 p.m. at Robidoux Row Museum on Third Street.
Betty was born on that day in 1924 in St. Joseph and is a lifelong resident of this city.
She married Henry “Hank” Drennen on June 20, 1941. They had six children: five daughters and one son.
Their children and spouses are: Judy Barber, Nancy and Don Frump, Karen and Johnny Orozco, Cathy and Larry Conner, and Hotrod and Gloria Drennen, all of St. Joseph; and Donna and Tom Dowdy of Green Valley, Ariz. A son-in-law, Jerry Barber, is deceased.
There are 20 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Betty has worked hard all of her life, raising her children and helping raise grandchildren. As of last year, she was still cooking breakfast and getting great-grandchildren and their friends off to school. She is known as “Grandma Betty” to nearly everyone who knows her, even the mail man. She is also an excellent cook, and when you go to her house, there is always something to eat. She is so loved by all of us and she is always there when we need her.
Friends and relatives are invited to drop by and help us make her day a very special one.
Cards may be sent to the honoree at 2905 St. Joseph Ave., St. Joseph, MO 64505.
