It's your call, Oct. 25, 2009

No support

This is for all the people who vote no for the children and school district. You don’t have to worry too much. Keep your money. You’ll go to Burger King and buy a meal, which is what the tax would cost you, but you won’t support the children — and I know you all have children or grandchildren. If you want to vote no, just vote your no and leave it be. Spend your money on a six pack of beer.

Ask questions

I just got a call from the Missouri State Troopers Association, I assume asking for a donation. When I started asking questions, apparently some the gentleman didn’t like, he hung up. I won’t support any organization that is not upfront with what happens to our donations.

Rush’s truth

I was just wondering, if Rush Limbaugh’s derogatory comments about certain practices of the Democratic Party and some of its members are unfounded, then why haven’t the persons he’s maligned brought lawsuits against him? Could it possibly be that you can’t sue someone for telling the truth?

Just one

The district winners in football should only be one team. Some of these teams that are going on to the playoffs are ridiculous. Just like the district covering Lafayette, Excelsior Springs and Kearney, the only team that should be going on in that district is Kearney. We should never have started this thing of two teams get to go.

Hazardous

The city needs to be really concerned about the sidewalks Downtown. If they’re going to beautify Downtown, that’s fine, but the sidewalks are a safety hazard. We just came from a Civic Arena convention and we had a co-worker that basically fell straight onto her forehead because there was an elevation of about four inches in the sidewalk and it occurred in front of the parking garage directly to the east of Civic Arena. I plan on taking a picture and showing it to our city manager, because that needs to get fixed.

Dusty

I think since we have these millions in reserves in the school district, they ought to use some of that money to clean the air ducts in these schools. I’ve heard a lot of them haven’t been cleaned since they were built. I know there are a lot of kids with asthma in these schools. I’ve been to a production at Central, and they had a spotlight and you could see so much dust and particles in the air, it was sickening.

The State Troopers didn't want a donation, they wanted to send you a Drive Safely sticker to put on your vehicle.

Several years ago my wife went to a night-time business meeting downtown and on the way back to her car she stumbled on a similar raised section of sidewalk on 8th St between Francis & Felix that she didn't see.
She fell into the rear fin of a nearby parked car splitting her forehead open like a watermelon. We tried to sue the city but the city said the sidewalks were the land owner's responsibility and we would have to sue the owner of the empty "out of business" building.
I believe the city owns those parking lots don't they?

To Just One, if they redo the way the playoffs are done again why dont they redistrict some of the teams (ie Kearney gets bumped up a class, Laswson gets bumped up a class, and Leblond gets bumped down a class, so everybody would get a chance at winning something)

THE SIDWALK SITUATION IN TOWN IS BAD, and nothing will be done about it,, but OMG dont let the grass grow in the cracks in front of you residence or they will issue you a ticket, and charge you to have city workers fix the problem
